CHAPTER I:
ST. JOHN PAUL II COLLEGE OF DAVAO BACKGROUND
SCHOOL SEAL AND ITS INTERPRETATION
With its motto, Ad astra per aspera, which literary means “to the stars
through sacrifices,” St. John Paul II College of Davao embodies- in its mission,
vision and itinerary of existence- the humble beginnings, life, experiences and
the philosophy of its owners, the Evangelista family: that in order to reach the
heights and levels of the stars, the only way is through sacrifices, hard work and
dedication. As the famous adage goes “There’s no glory without sacrifices.”
The Five Columns at the upper leaf of the seal stand for the members of
Evangelista Family: Ernie and Mercy, Jun, May and April. Each member stands
beside each other through thick and thin; thus, making the whole structure firm
and invincible.
At the lower left of the seal, the City of Davao symbolized by its leading
con and landmark: the lofty Philippine Eagle and majestic Mt. Apo. The eagle
symbolizes the Evangelista family’s determination to soar high “to the stars” (ad
astra) amidst sacrifices and hard work (per aspera). The family’s steadfast faith
and firm trust in God is embodied in the symbolism of the regal Mt. Apo.
The remaining element at the right side of the seal makes reference to St.
John Paul II’s pontifical coat-of-arms. The Cross symbolizes the Pope’s faith
while the capital letter “M” symbolizes deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary,
the “Queen of Peace”- a profound devotion that the Evangelista Family shares
with the Roman Pontiff. It is the same devotion that St. John Paul II College of
Davao encourages to its student and community to inculcate in them the value of
peace, justice and love.

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE OF SJPIICD
A night of blessing and merriment filled the streets of Ecoland Drive last
July 25, 2014 as St. John Paul II College of Davao celebrated their Acquaintance
Day and the unveiling of the new name and school seal with the theme:
Reminiscing the past, Celebrating the present and looking forward for the future.
The Evangelista family who owns the St. John Paul II College of Davao
expressed their joy in the canonization of the beloved pope where the school is
named in honor of him. Bishop Emeritus Fernando Capalla graced the
Eucharistic Celebration together with diocesan priests in Davao, and followed by
the blessing of the logo. The night is jam-packed with performances coming from
the students, a band for the street party, plus the hottest singing sensation from
X-Factor Philippines Grand Champion, KZ Tandingan also performed live on
stage on the momentous occasion. Moreover, an AVP presentation has been
shown, wherein the humble beginnings of the Evangelista family started in
building the institution and its development in the last 14 years of existence.
St. John Paul II College of Davao aims to promote and hone students with
competent, morally upright, socially responsible individuals guided by the
“Civilization of Love” of Blessed John Paul II, making it a firm foundation as a
center in various programs of instruction.

CHAPTER II:
WORK IMMERSION RATIONALE
One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop the
learners competence, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further
education or joining the world of work. To achieve greater congruence between
basic education and the nation's development targets work immersion, a required
subject has been incorporated into the curriculum to provide learners with
opportunities to become familiar with the work place, for employment simulation
and to apply their competencies in areas of specialization in authentic work
environments. This subject will provide learners with opportunities:
to become familiar with work place
for employment simulation; and
to apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in
authentic work environments
Work Immersion is thus a requirement for graduation from secondary education.
Learners are immersed in actual work environments such as workshops offices
and laboratories in which their prior training is relevant.
CONCEPT OF WORK IMMERSION
Work Immersion is part of Senior High School (SHS) Curriculum consisting of 80
hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which the Grade 12 students
will undergo to expose them to the actual workplace setting and enrich the
competencies provided by the school under the supervision of the School Head
and the designated personnel of the partner. The 80 hours may be scheduled for
no more than 8 cumulative or consecutive hours per day.
Work Immersion shall not be considered as employment arrangement but only to
serve the
K-12 Program purpose of exposing the students to actual workplace setting and
augment the competencies provided by the schools.
4
OBJECTIVES OF WORK IMMERSION
Work Immersion will help develop among the learners life and career skills, and
will prepare them to make decisions on post secondary education or
employment. Through partnership building, St. John Paul II College of Davao and
Department of Education hope that the partner Institutions will provide learners
with work immersion opportunities, workplace or hands-on experience, and
additional learning resources. It aims to make the learners:
appreciate the importance and application of the principles and theories learned
in school;
enhance their technical knowledge and skills;
enrich their skills in communications and human relations; and
develop good work habits, attitudes, appreciation and respect for work.
By the time learners reach Senior High School, they would have already acquired
almost all the competencies and skills that would prepare them for the curriculum
exits (higher education, employment, middle skills development and
entrepreneurship). Work Immersion provides them with an avenue to test
themselves and apply their previous training but are also able to experience the
social interactions in a work environment. Their experiences during work
immersion will develop many skills and values that would help them as they
transition from high school to real life.
To assure the achievement of the above objectives of Work Immersion, this
policy serves to guide SJPIICD in:
creating flexible work immersion arrangements for their learners;
providing options for work immersion that are relevant to learners’ purposes and
needs;
organizing work immersion opportunities for learners that are consistent with the
diverse human resource requirements of partner institutions for work immersion;
and
articulating the scope and limits of work immersion in the context of basic
education when building relationships with work immersion partners.
