Pan Baidu Search and Download
Pan Baidu Search and Download
COM
The Chinese internet includes a lot of valuable classical music resources, almost all hosted on
pan.baidu.com. The purpose of this guide is to suggest ways of searching for download links.
Before you start searching for something, remember to check the easy places first. After
completing a long and slow download from pan.baidu.com, it can be annoying to discover that the
same item could have been obtained in a fraction of the time from Rutracker.
Some of the search results may be for links that have expired.
Where the search result is a directory, you can find out more information about its contents by
visiting the pan.baidu.com web page. You can view image files without downloading them.
Some RAR and ZIP files may require an extraction password (“解压密码” in Chinese).
Sometimes this will be provided, either in the title of the archive or in an accompanying text
document, but that doesn’t always happen, and sometimes the only way of finding an
extraction is by searching for the original source of the link, typically on a forum post, but this
is very time-consuming and success isn’t guaranteed. You may be able to test for the presence
of an extraction password without waiting for the download to complete by making a copy of
the partially downloaded file, instructing your extraction software to open and unpack it, and
seeing if it requests a password.
Before downloading RAR or ZIP files, it’s a good idea to check that the file size is consistent
with what you would expect for the item you’re downloading. For example, there’s a file titled
“Walter Gieseking -《莫扎特无伴奏钢琴作品全集》(Mozart Obras Completas Para
Piano.rar” which measures just 91 kB. It’s probably malware not Mozart!
Online communities
There are various Chinese online communities where members post download links for classical
music. The one I’ve found most useful is tieba.baidu.com.
About tieba.baidu.com
The site is divided into individual forums, called ‘bars’. The most relevant is the Classical Music Bar,
“古典音乐吧”, and its home page is at
https://tieba.baidu.com/f?kw=%E5%8F%A4%E5%85%B8%E9%9F%B3%E4%B9%90
Threads are listed in order of the most recent activity, with the most active marked with a . To
find the music-sharing threads, it’s worth using Chrome’s translation facility. The word ‘resources’
often appears in the title of sharing threads.
Here are some noteworthy threads, although there are many others:
On the right of the Classical Music Bar home page, under the heading “友情贴吧” there are links
to other Bars covering specific areas of classical music: currently the Bach family, Beethoven,
Viennese New Year concerts, Mozart & Mahler. There are Bars for other composers as well, and
for performers including Furtwängler https://tieba.baidu.com/f?kw=富特文格勒 and Toscanini
https://tieba.baidu.com/f?&kw=%E6%89%98%E6%96%AF%E5%8D%A1%E5%B0%BC%E5%B0%BC.
Other online communities
There are a number of Chinese music-sharing boards (pt80.net, hifitime.com etc.), but most hide
their download links from unregistered visitors. An exception is http://www.erji.net/. A lot of
material is available there, but I've not noticed much original content. You can see what they have
to offer by web-searching using site:erji.net plus appropriate search terms.
There is also https://www.douban.com/. It includes a lot of information about CD issues, and
users’ comments about them, but download links are sometimes posted, for example at
https://www.douban.com/doulist/3412277/, a collection of recordings on the Altus label. A
site:douban.com web search can sometimes yield useful results. A recent and very active addition
to the site is https://www.douban.com/group/649356/.
Blogs
There aren’t many Chinese classical music sharing blogs, but here are a few:
http://mcyan520.lofter.com/ is excellent for Alpha, Ricercar, Arcana, Phi & CPO. The
pan.baidu.com links are embedded in the artwork for each post, and the access code appears
below. To search, hit “归档” on the left to go to http://mcyan520.lofter.com/view.

Weibo
Weibo.com, China's equivalent of Twitter, has some very interesting posts, often with original rips.
The following accounts are particularly noteworthy, but please note that some only upload music
from time to time:
Create a username
Create a password
Click on the box stating that you have read and accepted the agreement
Click on lower right hand box to have a text message sent to your phone
Enter the code in the lower left hand box and then click on the lowest button in order to
register.
[This takes time to navigate and locate what you want to download (I am still figuring out how
to search effectively)]
Once you have accessed the folder you can click on the folder and then click on the down load
button (it has an arrow pointing down). It will then open your baidu client and will prompt you
to select a folder to download to. Some files download quickly, while others take a bit longer.
