History of Pitogo
Pitogo was popularly known in the early days as ‘SIBANHONGAN’— from the native
plant called SIBAHONG which densely flourished along the shores where the first Subanen
settlers live. This plant is among the best raw materials used by the natives in weaving mats
and hats.
With the coming of the Visayan pioneers in the 50’s who occupied the nearby site, they
later organized a sitio called “Pitogo” due to the abundance of an ornamental Pitogo plant in
the area. Years later, as the population grew; there was a need to establish a school in the area.
They named the place ‘PITOGO’ in honor of the early Visayan settlers who pioneered the
establishment of an educational institution. This is how the place was named.
