Analysis of Island Detection Technique 2nd Sessional

This document analyzes island detection techniques in photovoltaic rich microgrids. It describes the basic model, maximum power point tracking technique, passive and rate of change of frequency methods. Simulation results show overvoltage and overfrequency during islanding. The conclusion is that passive techniques can detect islanding for small non-detection zones.

Island Detection

Islanding occur when a portion of distribution system become electrically

isolate from man generation and grid meet continues power from by PV
array.
Islanding can be detected by three method
Passive Method
Active Method
Remote Method

Description of Model

PV array-Delievering Maximum of 100 kw at 1000 watt per meter

square sun irradiance and at 25 degree celsius temperature
Boost Converter- It boost voltage from 273 to 500v dc . Duty Cycle
is optimised by MPPT controller
VSC(Voltage Source Converter)-It converts DC voltage to AC voltage
and keeps unity power factor. It uses two control loop : external loop
and internal loop .
Filter- Filtering harmonics produced by VSC
Utility Grid- It consist of 25 kv distribution feeder fed by by 120 kv
infinite bus.

Conclusion

On the basis of above result ,it has been concluded tripping of switches
causes islanding effect by changing voltage and frequency. This method has
certain advantage as it does not effect power quality but it fails for zero
mismatch .So, our motive is to apply such passive technique which can
detect islanding for small non-detection zone
