    Safety Bulletin-4

    Lack of fresh air means low oxygen it kills slowly brain cells.

    Fresh air is a necessity for both physical and mental health.

    But unfortunately most of us, due to living and working in confined areas,
    don’t get the optimal amount of fresh air needed.

    Impurities may be breathed in again and again.

    If AC is shut or fresh air is reduced buildings re-circulated air within the


    systems, which include indoor pollution, and higher level of carbon dioxide
    levels.

    Fresh air has a number of positive actions, including:

     Helps to keep mood buoyant and positive.


     Decreased survival of bacteria & viruses in the air.
     Lower body temperature

    Affects from a lack of fresh air, are caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain
    include:

     Fatigue
     Drowsiness
     Dullness of mind
     Irritability
    You may have heard of Sick
    Building Syndrome (SBS). This
    refers to a number of ailments
    that occur as a result of exposure
    to harmful chemical toxins at a
    home or work building.

    The main conditions for


    experiencing Sick Building
    Syndrome are spending long
    periods of time in well-sealed,
    poorly ventilated buildings that
    contain indoor air toxins.
    Some of the toxins that may be present
    these types of buildings are:

     Synthetic fibres in furniture


     Formaldehyde
     Dust mites
     Mould and mildew
     Volatile organic compounds
    (VOCs) which are organic
    chemicals that have a high
    vapour pressure at ordinary
    room temperature.
     Carpet fibres, etc.

    Some of these problems can be


    corrected by changes in heating,
    ventilation, or event change your
    cleaning products.

    Other ways include:--

    Run Air conditioner


    with sufficient fresh air
    component and optimal
    temperature of 22
    degree centigrade to 24
    degree centigrade

    Open blinds to let in some sun


    rays.

    Use natural alternatives for air


    fresheners, cleansers and other
    cleaning products.

    Add live plants which can


    absorb toxins right from the air.
    Good choices of plants are
    Peace lilies, golden pathos ,
    and dracaenas.
    Symptoms Related to Sick Building
    Syndrome:

    A number of symptoms can occur with


    SBS, and they include:

     Nausea
     Headache
     Dizziness
     Fatigue
     Concentration Difficulties
     Irritation of Eye, Nose & Throat

    It is also possible to experience long-term psychological effects in the form of disorders


    such as anxiety, depression, and paranoia.

    Think before asking for shutting the AC in the closed building office .Use light warm
    cloth instead
