CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM

This chapter comprises the Introduction, Significance of the Study, Statement of the Problem,

Conceptual Framework, Scope and Delimitation, Operational Definitions of Terms.

I. Introduction

Teaching strategies are a well-planned and deliberate pattern of teaching that have

attained a form of consistency on the part of the students toward academic subjects and

passing those. Teaching strategies determine the academic performance of students to

a great extent. Both teaching strategies and academic performance are interrelated and

dependent on each other. There are students who come from different environments,

localities etc., and have different levels of academic performance that is high and low.

They also differ in their study habits. Some students have better understanding and

adaptability while the others have poor. The better the Teaching strategies that the

teacher is using, the better the academic performance is.

Academic performance means, the knowledge and learning an individual has

acquired from school. Academic performance of the students is determined by their

teaching strategies. It is the teaching strategies that help the learner obtain meaningful

and desirable knowledge. Good teaching strategies act as a strong weapon for the

students to excel in life. It is important to have a clear understanding of what benefits or

what hinders one’s educational achievement that is why the researchers chose this

topic.
The primary aim of this study was to examine the effective teaching strategies on

students’ academic performance. The general aim is expressed in the following specific

purpose which are to: Assess the teaching strategies of Grade 11 STEM students,

examine factors influencing teaching strategies and investigate the effect of having and

not having a strategies on students’ academic performance.

II. Significance of the Study

Significance to the Researchers – Being students of Corpus Christi School of Iligan, we,

the researchers want to know the cause and effect of having and not having teaching

strategies of the grade 11 STEM students and its effect to their academic performance. By

conducting this study, we, the researchers can also help and give ideas to the problems

about strategies that the respondents may face.

Significance to the Respondents – The respondents will be able to have

knowledge about the effect of having and not having teaching strategies to their

academic performance, and with that, they can maintain their high grades and they can

also know the ways and tips on avoiding getting a low grade.

Significance to the Parents – This study is important to the parents because

whatever the result of this study will be, the parents has that responsibility to help their

child in any affect their child’s academic performance. The parents could also know what

their child go through every day.

Significance to the Teachers – This study can help the teachers improvise their

teaching strategies and motivate their students more on excelling their academic

performance.

Significance to the other students of Abuno National High school-Annex – With the
help of this study, other students can gather information or knowledge of what could

possibly affect them on having or not having teaching strategies .

III. Statement of the Problem

The following questions were raised to guide and to contribute the study

1) What are the profiles of the respondents according to their:

a. sex

b. gender

2) Is there any relationship between teaching strategies and academic performance of the

grade 11 STEM students?

3) Is it effective on having or not having teaching strategies to the academic performance of

grade 11 STEM students?

4) How important is the method of teaching strategies on academic performance on the

students?

V. Statement of the Problem

This study is Delimited to selected teachers education institution in the national

Academic performance means, From each institution, teachers handling under Graduate

cources were randomly selected to fill out questionnaires. All the teachers had at least a year

of a experiences as a teachers educator and came from different areas of specialization. So

that they have different experience in teachings in order to have strategies in teachings.

VI. Scope and Delimitation

The Study process on knowing the reason what are the strategies and process of

teachings of the teachers to Academic Performance of Grade 11 STEM student of Abuno

National High school – Annex.

VII. Operational Definition of terms

 Kinesthetic Learners is learning style in which learning takes places by the students

carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching

demonstratons.

 Inductive Method means the rule is given only after the learner has induced the

underlying framework for the rule.

 The teaching strategies of the teachers have different positive impact on the Grade
