Abstract

This study focuses on the design of machine foundation for Francis turbine and
generator considering the vertical and horizontal orientation of shafts at Sugpon, Ilocos
Sur Hydroelectric Powerplant (HEPP) Powerhouse. It aims to provide a template of the
design considering machine static and dynamic loads. The factors being considered in
the design include the weight of the machines, weight of the foundation, and the
dynamic loads generated during the operation of the machines. The adequacy of the
design is checked from the soil allowable bearing capacity. This study will provide the
designs and templates of machine foundation for the turbine and generator with
different orientations, specifically, horizontal and vertical.
