Beginning May 2-8, 2011, eminent Bon Lamas Geshe Gelek Jinpa and Lama Sangye Monlam
of Triten Norbutse monastery and Shenten Dargye Ling offer a systematic course of teachings on the
Ma Gyud (mother tantra) in Graz, Austria. http://yungdrung-bon/MaGyud/
Ma Gyud (mother tantra) is the most important “higher tantra” of Bön. It is the source of
almost all the Tsa Lung practices used by Dzogchen practicioners; it is the source of Tummo,
Phowa, Chöd, dream yoga and Bardo practice. These practices will be covered in years two
to five. In the first year, the Lamas will teach how to establish “natural state”, the basis of both
Tantra and Dzogchen in the Bön tradition. It is also the time to make a committment to tantric
practice: Samaya. It will be possible to participate in each single week of teachings separately, but
the unique opportunity lies in learning all of the practices from the Ma Gyud in context. Serious
students who follow the whole program may ask for Ma Gyud initiation at the end of the course.
Geshe Gelek Jinpa is a highly regarded teacher of the Bön tradition, known for his authenticity
and kindness, and his openness for discussion. He teaches in English, but in the traditional Tibetan
way, going through the source text line by line and bringing it to life by detailled instructions and
references to his personal experience.
Lama Sangye Monlam is a highly accomplished Dzogchenpa, with decades of experience in
the Tantric techniques of the Ma Gyud. He teaches in Tibetan. While he is sometimes consulted by
other Bön Lamas on details of Ma Gyud practices, he rarely teaches westerners for lack of a congenial
interpreter. In Graz we will have a superb interpreter in Dr. Peter Alan Roberts.
Location: Harrachgasse 32. This is close to Graz University’s main building. Bus stop Univer-
sität (line 63 from the train station).
