Hot Spot 2 A cross word
Teachers’ notes

Level and module Hot Spot 2, Module 2

Target language Action verbs: everyday activities

Activity time 10 – 15 minutes

Organization Pairwork

Type of activity Competitive crossword

Preparation For each pair of pupils, print one copy of the crossword grid and clues
on the next two pages.

Instructions 1 Divide your class into pairs, and give each pair a crossword grid and
a set of clues.

2 Tell them that the ‘clues’ are sentences which have each had a
word removed. These words can be found in the box above their
crossword grid.

3 Working together, the players decide which words are missing from the
sentences, and write these words in the crossword grid. There are no
black spaces in the grid so student's can't guess answers easily. The first
letter of each word should go in the space that contains a number and
an arrow indicating which way the word goes ( across or  down).

4 The first pair in the class to complete their crossword is the winner.
Alternatively, set a time limit of 10 minutes, ask them to stop, and review
their answers. The pair who completed most of their crossword is the
winner.
