1.0 INTRODUCTION
The main purpose of this method statement is to outline the basement floor and tie beam concreting
procedure of the project. It has been prepared based on the proper construction procedures, standards &
required specification related to the project.
Initially tie beam casting was separated from grade on slab. But as per new design scope of work been changed
due to suspended slab concept.
Also it will be covered the details of the materials, equipment, procedure & relevant document QA/QC &
safety precautions to be implemented at site during the total work process.
When we consider the full process of work from excavation & base preparation for pile caps & grade beams to
basement floor level, main activities can be listed as follows.
01. Excavation, base preparation & screed concrete work for pile caps & grade beams
02. Pile cap & grade beam concreting as monolithic structure (Segment by segment)
03. Column stub construction work up to +3.150m level (including tie beam starter RF)
04. Tie beam construction work up to basement floor slab bottom level
05. Earth filling & compaction up to basement floor slab bottom level
06. Underground piping works (MEP works)
07. Backfilling & compaction of soil around the MH & along the pipe lines
08. Termite treatment work
09. DPM laying work
10. Basement slab concreting
11. Curing of the concrete
1. Working Drawings - Structural Drawings, Architecture Drawings & Approved shop drawings
2. Specifications for Building Works (Vol. I) –[3rd Edition (Revised) – July 2004] (CIDA/SCA/4/I)
3. Specifications for Building Works (Vol. II)–[2nd Edition (Revised) – October 2001] (CIDA/SCA/4/II)
4. Bill of Quantities / Specifications
3.1 Role & Responsibilities for work from pile cap top level to basement floor level
To have & to ensure smooth operation of total operation period up to basement floor concreting, each
members of the construction team is assigned a specific role. That would be very helpful to overview each
sequences of the work & to minimize the re works/ errors & to maintain good quality work.
QA/QC Manager & QA/QC Engineer will be the key personals for the coordination of consultant and
contractor’s technical staff of Site Engineer/ Civil Engineer/ Technical Officers. Each & every work/ main
activity will be carried out with skilled working team and controlling of quality up to standards.
Whole work would be categorized to specified sub tasks to assign the resources effectively. The capacity/
size/ requirement of the tools, equipment & man power shall be judged in accordance with the site
condition of the time of execution as well as work done to be covered.

4.0 WORK DESCRIPTION FLOW CHART FOR THE BEAM AND FLOOR CONCRETE WORK
OF BASEMENT FLOOR
RF work of the suspended tie beam Tie beam re bar cleaning & chipping
Earth filling & compaction of the earth Excavation for MH & UG piping
(Parallel to concrete works)
5.1 Tie beam rebar cleaning & chipping of the column face
Tie beam starters were placed during the concreting of the columns from pile cap top level to
basement floor level. Those starter bars were protected with polythene warping but considerable
corrosion effected to the starters.
So necessary wire brushing & chipping of the column face will be done before lapping of the
main bars for the tie beams.
After getting the QA/QC approval for the cleaning & chipping necessary RF work will be
continued as per the approved structural drawing.
5.2 Formwork for tie beams & concreting up to basement slab bottom level
Conventional FW with coated plywood will be used for the completion of the formwork.
Where clear cover is lesser then the 40mm, formwork will be widen to achieve required clear
cover.
On pile cap surface there wouldn’t be enough clear height to keep necessary pipe support to soffit
of the tire beam. So necessary timber spacer support to soffit will be introduced to firm fixing of
the soffit.
For side board tightening, 2”x2” verticals with tread bar & form tie will be used for the clamping.
Necessary GI pipe supports in H will be done to get the correct alignment.
After completion of the necessary formwork cleaning will be done & then after concreting will be
done.
Application of the bonding agent for the column face connection will be done to receive proper
bonding.
During the concreting stage, parallel to pouring grouting of the top RF will be done to protect
from corrosion. Because slab of the basement level will be cast after completion of the earth
filling as well as underground piping. So considerable time top RF will be exposed to environment
& it may cause for the corrosion. So protect the re bar from corrosion grouting will be done with
the beam portion concreting.
Approved surface retarder (Chryso Deco Lav P) application will be done after bleeding stage to
easy roughening of the construction joint of the tie beam.
After 8-12Hrs of application, high pressure water jet will be used to remove the top grout layer to
receive rough surface.
Side board of the beams will be removed after 1day of concreting & MasterKure 128 application
will be done for the sides & top of the beam. Soffit board will be removed after 14days of
concreting.
Any RF identified as not been grouted to protect from corrosion, re grouting will be done to
proper protection of the re bar from extreme corrosion.
Before start the earth filling work, suspended tie beams will be covered by polythene to protect it
for deposition of soil/ mud during the earth compaction work.
This precaution to be done, otherwise soil will be deposited on roughen surface & it will be
difficult to remove while tie beam preparation for slab concreting.
5.3 Earth filling from base level to basement slab bottom level
Back filling/ hard core earth filling & compacting to be done in 150mm layers. ( As described
under NU/2019/MIR/MS/CIVIL/003)
Due to high ground water level, initial layer thickness will be varied as per the approval granted
by the Engineer.
While doing the compaction work precautions to be done to protect & minimize the damages
to the tie beam & slab starters.
Up to the locations of the tie beams earth compaction will done starting from mid span of the
bay. Compaction around the beams will be done mid span to tie beam location. Free movement
area compaction can be done to receive 95% degree of compaction. Under the tie beams there
is a practical difficulty to achieve 95% of the degree of compaction.
While doing the compaction near the tie beam portion more attention to be done not to
damage top RF with exposed portion of the shear link.
5.5 Excavation of trenches for tie beams & for wall foundations
On compacted hard filling necessary setting out for the excavation will be done for wall
foundation using back hoe with mini bucket/ manually.
Depending up on the drop panel locations excavation bottom level can be varies.
Parallel to that trenching for wall foundations also continuing.
While doing the excavation attention to be done to not to do any over excavation not exceeding
50mm.
5.6 Balance Earth works, trimming & levelling of the soil top & balance MEP Works
During the excavation for the wall foundation some compacted earth can be disturbed. So those
areas to be trim/ levelled & plate compactor will be used for the compacting.
Parallel to trimming & levelling of the top surface of the earth filling necessary end cap checking &
fixing will be done for MEP provisions.
If any MEP balance work to be done prior to termite treatment & floor concrete, it is to be
completed. To prevent the damage to chemical application of the soil necessary MEP works, levelling &
trimming to be completed before pest controlling application.

OF BASEMENT TIE BEAMS & FLOOR SLAB
Before that chipping of the tie beam surface & RF cleaning to be done. Pre applied grouts on tie
beam RF will be removed by using grinder & cup brush/ wire brush. Parallel to cleaning work roughen
