20-31-00 List of Materials Required For Aircraft Service And Maintenance Description And Operation--------21
The airframe standard practices chapter contains information on the use and application of
aircraft maintenance and repair processes which are not specifically covered in other
chapters of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual.
It also gives the list of materials required for servicing and maintenance operations.
2. Standards Manual
Information related to the various standards effective for all AIRBUS models are given in a
separate manual called: STANDARDS MANUAL.
Moreover, the STANDARDS MANUAL contains a selection of the basic standards used on
the AIRBUS programs. Standard parts which are not found in the STANDARDS MANUAL
shall not be used without prior approval by AIRBUS INDUSTRIE.
The STANDARDS MANUAL assists the customer with respect to information about the
identification of standard parts and their procurement in co-operation with the AIRBUS
INDUSTRIE spare parts center AIRSPARES.
General
This section gives the information related to the safety practices of:
- wirelocking (Ref. ATA 20-11)
Safetying by Wirelocking
(TASK 20-11-11-911-001-A)
The lockwire is installed to put tension on the wire when the parts become loose.
Job Set-up
1. When you connect a pipe to a plug- in union, lock the pipe swivel nut to
the component and not to the plug-in union.
2. You can lock the adjacent plug-in unions or swivel nuts together.
3. Do not use the same lockwire to lock more than one plug-in unions or
swivel nuts.
C. Wirelocking Methods:
Use only the single wire method only when specified in the related task.
The maximum length of lockwire is 600 mm (23.62 in.)
PROCEDURE :
A. Double wirelocking:
NOTE: There must be same length of lockwire on each side of the fastener.
2. Bend one lockwire end around the fastener head (1) to the fastener head (2).
3. Bend this lockwire end around the other lockwire end.
4. Use –PLIERS-TWISTING, SPECIAL to twist the lockwire clockwise at a maximum
angle of 600 .
Keep the lockwire tight during the twisting. Until twisting part become very near to
the hole in the next unit.
5. Pull the lockwire end through the fastener head (2) when the twisted part is near it
(less than 3mm).
For wire locking of 3 nuts or bolt heads, twist the lockwire in one direction between
first two items. Then twist it in the opposite direction between the second and third
items.
NOTE: The direction of the wrap and twist strand must be such that the loop
around the parts comes below the strands that go out of the hole. Thus the
loop will stay down and will not become loose.
6. Pull the other lockwire end around the fastener head (2).
7. Twist the strand in the direction that will cause the lower lockwire to always be
pulled down.
The length of the twisted part (pigtail) must be between 10 mm minimum and 15
mm maximum.
8. If necessary cut and discard the unwanted length of lockwire.
- You must collect the cut-off material to prevent damage to the aircraft.
B. SINGLE WIRELOCKING
(20-11-11-911-062-A)
1. Put the lockwire into the hole of bolt (1) (see detail A)
2. Keep the wire tight, twist a minimum of four times.
3. Put one end of the lockwire through the locking wire hole of the bolt (2). (see
detail B)
NOTE: do not cut the end that is not used until the wirelocking operation is
completed. You can use it if first end breaks.
4. Bend the lockwire back by 1800 and below itself. (see detail C)
5. Pull the lockwire tight and make it go around and make itself again until you get
between two and four full turns.
6. If necessary cut and discard the unwanted length of lockwire:
- You must collect the cut off material to prevent damage to the aircraft.
7. Make sure that there is tension in the lockwire.
8. Make sure that there are no signs of damage (nicks, kinks) on the lockwire.
Close-up
(a) The LRUs have sufficient built-in protection to prevent electrostatic discharge
damage.
(b) No protective electrostatic-discharge handling procedures are necessary unless
the LRU housing is open.
For example, antistatic or conductive protective caps are not necessary for
connectors on the LRU housing (standard caps are sufficient).
(c) The standard precautions for each LRU are specified in the AMM in the
applicable removal/Installation task.
For example, _Put blanking caps on the receptacle and on the LRU connector(s).
NOTE : Some LRUs such as the Passenger Interface and Supply Adapter (PISA), or Power
Supply Unit are Printed Circuit Assemblies without housing. They are sensitive to
electrostatic discharge. During maintenance operations, refer to the applicable
Removal/Installation task for electrostatic discharge precautions.
Procedure
It is necessary to safety an open circuit breaker with safety clips (PN ABS0772 or
equivalent) during:
NOTE : The manufacturer recommends safety clips PN ABS0772 but the operator can use
equivalents that obey the requirements given in this document.
It is always better to use plastic safety clips because they prevent the risk of
accidental short circuits (if they fall in an electrical panel for example).
(1) Operation
(2) Maintenance
(a) There is a risk of injury and damage to equipment and/or the aircraft if persons
do work on electrically energized equipment or systems.
- electrical shocks that can occur when there is contact with energized
wiring connections, terminals, etc.
- short circuits that can occur when metal tools or parts make accidental
contact between energized wiring, terminals, contacts, etc.
(1) It is safety practice to install red color safety clips on the related circuit breaker.
(2) It is recommended to secure the safety clips with stainless steel lock wire.
(3) It is recommended to install a safety tag on the related circuit breakers to inform
maintenance staff of “maintenance operation in progress.”
(d) When these safety clips are installed, it must be possible to see the complete
circuit breaker panel and all the placards.
(a) Make sure that you apply the correct tightening torque when you attach/
connect a circuit breaker.
A. Safety Precautions
(1) During storm conditions, or when there is atmospheric electrical activity you
must:
This section gives the information related to the standard processes of:
GENERAL
This procedure gives the different tightening torques applicable to the standard
screw heads and nuts.
The specific applicable torques is given in the maintenance procedure.
(1) The threaded fasteners are identified with a standard number written on the
head (example: ABS, AN, ASNA, NAS, ASN, NSA, MS). They are installed in
standard conditions and lubricated.
(2) Before you apply a tightening torque to a fastener, make sure that you know its
correct part number. To find the correct part number of a fastener (screw,
washer, nut), refer to the installation figure of the IPC.
NOTE: It is necessary to know the fastener standard and diameter to know the
correct tightening torque.
(3) The tightening torques of the TAPERLOK, HI-LOK, and HI-LITE screws are
specified in the given procedures (Ref. SRM 514900).
(4) The torque values of the nuts and the screws are given with their initial
lubricants.
(5) These torque values are available for the different screw /nut diameters:
- The minimum value
- The nominal value
- The maximum value.
(6) Make sure that you get the correct part mating before you apply the maximum
torque value.
B. Used Fasteners
(1) Before you use threaded fasteners again, Make sure that:
- there is no deterioration of the thread of the screw and of the nut, of the
mating surface of the nut and of the recess of the screw.
- the protection of the screw and nut is not damaged.
The condition of the standard lubricant is correct. Apply the initial lubricant again if
necessary.
NOTE: The deterioration of the lubricant decreases the preload values, and can:
C. Tightening - Tools:
1. GENERAL
(a) Before you use a tightening tool, make sure that the calibration of this tool is correct.
2. Torque wrenches
NOTE: Airbus recommends to have the torque wrench and adapter aligned.
b. Torque value correction applicable when the torque wrench and adopter are
aligned.
To get the torque wrench dial reading value T2, use this formula
T1 x A
T2 = --------
A+B
c. Procedure applicable when the torque wrench and adopter are not aligned
1. Make sure the length between handle application point and the bolt axis
2. Torque wrench pre-setting
To get the torque wrench dial reading value T3, use the formula:
T1 x A
T3 = --------
C
4. Screwing machine
When you use a screwing machine make sure that the speed is correct to prevent too
much heat on the fasteners.
NOTE: this can cause damage to the protection and the lubricant and can cause seizing
of the fastener.
(1) Clean the inspection areas with Material No. 11-004* (CLEANING
AGENT) and lint free cotton cloth Material No. 19-003*.
2. Procedure
A. Inspection:
(1) Do a detailed inspection of the bonding leads installed on the access panels,
doors and movable surfaces.
2. Refer to the table to find the the correct value (Ref. AMM TASK 20-
28-00-869-002)
NOTE: For the bonding leads installed on the FWD and AFT cargo door

WARNING: BEFORE YOU USE A CONSUMABLE MATERIAL, YOU MUST KNOW ALL OF THE
APPLICABLE PRECAUTIONS GIVEN IN THE MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET.
READ THESAFETY DATA SHEET FROM THE MANUFACTURER OR SUPPLIER OF
THE MATERIAL AND OBEY THE RECOMMENDED PRECAUTIONS..
CAUTION: WHEN YOU DO A MAINTENANCE TASK THAT USES COMMON GREASE, OBEY
THESE PRECAUTIONS:
The list of consumable material is given in the Consumble Material List (CML).
For some applications in the AMM procedures, there can be alternative materials. These
materials have the same item number as the basic mterial but with the suffix letter (A,B,C
etc.). Example : 06-001A, 06-001B, & 06-001C are alternative of 06-001.
You can use one of the alternative materials if there is an asterikafter the basic item number
called up in the procedure (e.g. 06-001*). If the procedure calls up basic material without
an asterik or a specific material with a suffix letter, then you must use that specific material
only.
From the October, 2011 revision of the CML, the materials are organized by “ Application” .
Refer to CML introduction for more information. The AMM usually give the CML item
number, except for new materials referenced by anApplication code.
In AirN@v/ Maintenance there is a hyperlink between the material identification given in
the AMM and CML available in the AirNav Associated Data.
NOTE: The list of all approved oil brand names for APU servicing and maintenance is
given in AMM 20-33-00.
The list of all approved oil brand names for IDG servicing and maintenance is
given in AMM 20-34-00.
NOTE: All AMM tasks that use one or more consumable material (s) have this warning at
top of the task.
The AMM does not give specific Warnings for consumable materials because the related
precautions are given in the applicabel Material Safety Data Sheet. For more information
about Material Safety Data Sheet, refer to the CML introduction.
