Welcome to HI 201
The course will be a mix of face-to-face sessions and online activities. Assignments will be given weekly and are expected to be uploaded every
Friday for checking. These assignments will be used to assess project-based learning, the learning strategy for this course. Each assignment is
meant to answer a driving question. The driving question should guide you in studying the material for the week.

Grading

Attendance 15%
Online participation 10%
Academic honesty 10%
Assignments 50%
Final pitch 15%

For this course, students are expected to have a student blog (for assignments), open a Twitter account (if you don't have one already) and to
join the Facebook groups of the Philippine Medical Informatics Society (PMIS) and the UP MSHI.

Every Friday, upload your assignment here then document it in a blog post. Post a link to the blog post in the PMIS FB group. Tweet a link to
your blog post to me @endocrine_witch. Don't forget to use the hashtags #MSHI and #HI201.

There will be no final exam for this course. Instead, you will pitch a health informatics-related solution to a problem you identify in the
Philippine healthcare system.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Summarize key attributes and problems of the Philippine healthcare system.

2. Demonstrate how health informatics can potentially solve some of these problems.
3. Discuss the Philippines' national ehealth strategy.
4. Explain key health data and interoperability standards.
5. Examine real-world challenges in the field of health informatics.
6. Appreciate how big data and analytics may transform healthcare.

Announcements
