Pendulum Test Method

The document outlines the process for estimating slip resistance using the pendulum method. It describes the test equipment used, including a pendulum with a scale from 0-150, a mechanical foot applying 2.24 kg of force, and a rubber slider. The procedure involves setting the pendulum to zero, cleaning sample tiles, and allowing the pendulum to contact dry tiles from 125-127 mm or wet tiles at 76 mm. Tests are performed in 5 places on a tile or 5 tiles, and the average value is reported by dividing the scale reading by 100.

Slip Resistance test (By Using Pendulum Method)

Objective: To Define the Process of Estimation of Slip Resistance by using Pendulum Method.

Reference Method: BS 7976 Parts 1, BS 7976 Part 2 and BS 7976 Part 3

Test Equipment: Portable Pendulum Equipment with Scale, Mechanical Foot and Rubber Slider with
following Details.

Scale: Graduated scale from 0 to 150

Mechanical Foot: 22 N applied force or 2.24 kg weight of Pendulum

Rubber Slider: 76 x 25 mm and Hardness of rubber 76± 5 SHOR Hardness Unit.

Contact of Pendulum and Tiles Surface: For Dry Tiles 125 to 127 mm and for Water wet Tile 76 mm

Procedure:

1. Equipment is set to zero by free falling the equipment without any obstruction or contact.
2. Test sample is cleaned and dried by Chamois leather.
3. Instrument is Thus fixed that it contacts the surface of Tiles to 125 to 127 mm in dry condition
and 76 mm in wet condition.
4. Test is performed in 5 places of a tile or by using 5 different tiles and average value is reported.

Reporting the result: Value obtained in the equipment is divided by 100 to get the value in fractions.
