03.QSP-QC-003-Transmitter Calibration Procedure With RTD & TC

This document provides a calibration procedure for temperature transmitters (RTD/TC). It outlines the purpose, scope, reference documents, equipment, standards, and step-by-step procedure used to calibrate temperature transmitters at various temperature points to ensure accuracy. Temperature transmitters are calibrated using temperature baths and a multifunction calibrator by comparing the readings of the unit under test and a master thermocouple and calculating any error. The error must be within specified tolerance limits according to industry standards.

LTD
CALIBRATION PROCEDURE FOR TEMPERATURE TRANSMITTER
Rev. No.: 00
DEPT.:- QC-RTD-THERMOCOUPLE DOC. NO.: QSP/QC/002 Issue Date : 01.01.2015
Rev. Dt. : ---
PURPOSE :- This Test determines the accuracy of the Temperature Transmitter (RTD/TC).
SCOPE :- This procedure is used for calibration of Temperature Transmitter (RTD/TC).
REFERENCE DOCUMENTS:
a) IEC-60584 – Thermocouples-1-EMF specifications and tolerances/Thermocouples Tolerances
b) DIN -43760 – Electric Thermometer
c) ASTM E 644-04 – Industrial Resistance thermometers
EQUIPMENTS AND STANDARDS :-
1. PRT (PT 100) Sensor (4-wire) -Make-Isotech Range: -200 to 165°C
2. Cold Temperature Bath -Make-Nivtech Range: -45 to Ambient
3. Water Temperature Bath -Make-Ganesh Range: 30 to 95°C
4. Oil Temperature Bath -Make-Ganesh Range: Ambient to 150°C
5. Multifunction Calibrator (Calsys-50) -Make-AOIP Range: As per manual
6.mA/mV Calibrator -Make-Fluke Range:
PROCEDURE :-
1. Select the required temperature on the Temperature Bath & wait to stabilize the temperature.
2. Place the Master PRT/Thermocouple & UUT with Transmitter Thermocouple for calibration in the Temperatu
bath.
3. Connect the leads to the readout ensuring proper wire Connection.
4. Measure & Record the corresponding milliVolts of the Master & the UUT Thermocouple.
5. Measure the Ambient Temperature & the corresponding milliVolts for both.
6. Add the milliVolts value in the final readings of both Thermocouples.
7. This will be the reading of UUT & Master Thermocouple at 100 Degree Celsius.
8. Compare the measured readings of the UUT & the Master Thermocouple.
9. Error calculation, Error = [UUT TC Reading – Master TC Reading.]
10. This error should lie in specified tolerance limits as per IEC 60584
Special Note - Calibrate UUT Thermocouple as per the below chart & customers’ requirement for
different temperature points.

Sr. Thermocouple Type Calibration Points in Degree Celcisus
