With a staggering 7700 startups launched in India between 2013 – 2018 at a growth
rate of 11% per year, there is a growing need to build a shared and self-sufficient
ecosystem where young minds and professionals can create meaningful solutions.
The architecture of this typology shall be collaborative and flexible by integrating a
co-working and
co-living environment. This commercial campus will house incubation centers, offices,
exhibition spaces, libraries, service apartments, supermarkets, archival museum,
auditoriums, cycling track, etc.

Economic Reasons
In comparison to Mumbai, Chennai’s consumer prices and rent are 54 per cent cheaper
whereas life in Delhi and Bengaluru is 18 and 13 per cent more expensive than the Tamil
Nadu capital, respectively. While the environment is suitable for businesses, the city is also
catching up in terms of infrastructure. It is opening up to high-end facilities and research
spaces of late.
Funding no more seems to be an issue as many angel investors with deep pockets are willing
to invest in startups with innovative ideas. The lack of startup policies in Tamil Nadu which had
become a matter of concern earlier for aspiring entrepreneurs also seems to have met a
solution with the state government’s recent announcement confirming that investments
worth Rs. 45,000 crores are in the pipeline.
The TNSSGF would also provide funding for Idea-to-PoC (Proof of Concept) stages, which are
pre-startup activities. According to the policy document, the state government would
provide adequate incentives and resources to startups, facilitators, mentors and investors to
promote startup culture in the state. The government would reduce the existing regulatory
and tax burden on startups.
Success at IIT, Madras - The Indian Institute of Technology in Chennai, was the first institute to
provide incubation facilities on campus and since its introduction there have been 186
startups, out of which 73 have reached the market, creating 3000 jobs and raising an initial
investment of 1613 crore rupees. Providing us with all the more reason to setup a startup
campus in the city.
WORKSHOPS – The workshops will serve two types of users. One is the existing business
incubates in the building that require assistance in project development. The other function
of the workshop is that it acts as a maker’s space that can be rented hourly to DIY enthusiasts
via a scheme of membership or subscriptions so that they may be empowered to evolve
their specific projects rather than relying on large scale manufactures to produce them. Due
to the wide variety of workshops and equipment’s available, this space may also become a
hub for students in technical courses who need to be instructed in the right direction.
CAFETERIA – 24-hour cafeteria will be provided so that the facility may become a self-
sufficient one and provide food at odd working hours that one usually witnesses at these
centers.
MULTIPURPOSE HALL – Shall be used for lectures, product launches, funding meeting and to
display new in-house developed technology. It hopes to be a successful incubator model
meeting all the requirements that current and potential startups may need.
MODULAR APARTMENTS - Apartments will be provided adjacent to the facility to ensure hassle
free living system, so the incubates can utilize their time to the fullest. The apartments will be
customizable and modular as a startup generally takes 33 weeks to complete on an
average, hence the period of stay is temporary not permanent. The residences shall be
provided at a nominal rate to the incubates. This where I want to bring about the idea of
modules, where units can be constructed offsite and placed one on top the other using a
crane and dismantled when not used.
PERSONEL BACKGROUND - Hailing from a real estate driven family, the concept of co working
and co living is something I have had in-depth knowledge about as I have had the
opportunity to be a part of several discussions with leading brands in the market like
Workafella,WeWorks,Awfis,Zolo,Oyo,etc.I feel I will be able to do justice to this topic as this is
something which is close to me and which I will definitely be a part of in the years to come.

The headquarters will be a meeting point for all major activities related to fashion. It is
an amalgamation of production units, workspaces, ramp walk/exhibition area,
boarding facilities for the weavers and a museum. Although India is known for its rich
textile and garment industry, we don’t have an architectural icon the fashion industry
can relate to as a symbol of their profession.

This summer I interned with one of India’s most renowned fashion designers – Mr.Tarun
Tahiliani, where I got to experience firsthand what it takes to design and manufacture Indian
garments on a large scale. Though Mr.Tahiliani is the only Indian fashion designer to run his
own in-house production unit, spanning 2 acres in the heart of Gurgaon, Delhi, it was brought
to my attention the several problems that can be solved through architecture in the fashion
industry. These problems will be the central spine of my design process.
AIM
The headquarters will be a meeting point for all major activities related to fashion. Although
India is known for its rich textile and garment industry, we don’t have an architectural icon
the fashion industry can relate to as a symbol of their profession.
OBJECTIVES
- To provide sufficient lodging facilities to the weavers and tailors, who have migrated
from their rural settlements in search of better job opportunity.
- Inculcate an environment which can inspire the designers, to produce intricate and
bold designs.
LOCATION
The world has a fashion capital that is inevitably Paris, then New York, London, Milan,
Barcelona, Berlin follow suit. This got me thinking what if India too had a fashion capital?
Where would it be? And I was left with only one answer, in view of the lifestyle standards and
fondness for fashion, Mumbai rightfully qualifies as the Fashion Capital of India. It is house to
the world class brands and their flagship stores, hence Mumbai is a shopper’s paradise too.
Let’s shed some more light into the fashion scene in Mumbai to validate my point:
Bollywood is in Mumbai:
Bollywood or Hindi film industry is in Mumbai which makes for the predominant reason why
we would term it as the fashion capital of India. Glamour and fashion is connected to
Bollywood with an umbilical cord hence Mumbai undoubtedly is the fashion capital of India.
The best fashion shows are held in Mumbai:
The top most Indian designers such as Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahiliani, Nita Lulla, Falguni
shane Peacock, Sabyasachi have their flagship store in Mumbai. Also, the famous fashion
shows like Amazon India Fashion Week, Lakme India Fashion Week etc are held in Mumbai.
That aside, the famous fashion models reside here as well.

The Government of India has cleared a proposal for the establishment of permanent
campuses of seven new IIM by June 2021 at a cost of over Rs. 3775cr.These IIMs were
established between 2015 – 2016, at present there are functioning as transit
campuses. These institutes are located in Amritsar, Bodh Gaya, Nagpur, Sambalpur,
Sirmaur, Vishakhapatnam and Jammu. From these venues, I will propose a campus at
Vishakhapatnam with the key focus to enhance the cognitive functions of the user by
stimulating their senses through architectural features.

AIM
In many ways I believe that an ideal institution of education must function the way a city
does, where different stories are weaved together with common aspirations.
It must be a platform to bring together and encourage varieties and at the same time move
together. An ideal educational institution is where learning is not confined to the boundaries
of the classroom.
OBJECTIVES
- The built fabric of an ideal institution must be conceived as integrated and a
harmonious organism not as scattered buildings.
- There shall be harmony not only amongst the built structures, but also with the spaces
that these structures.
- To enhance the cognitive functions of the user by stimulating their senses through
architectural features.
