In order for your application to be processed without needless delay, all required documentation must be submitted
with the application along with any required, non-refundable fees. Before submitting your application, make certain
that you check the following:

PURPOSE: This application is to qualify for EXAMINATION to become an ASSOCIATE REAL ESTATE TRAINEE APPRAISER (557),
CERTIFIED RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE APPRAISER (556) OR CERTIFIED GENERAL REAL ESTATE APPRAISER (553).
ENDORSEMENT: If you are accepted by ENDORSEMENT, you will NOT have to sit for the Illinois exam. Trainees, interns, assistants, or
apprentices from another jurisdiction are ineligible to receive a credential through endorsement.
DIRECTIONS: Carefully follow the steps outlined within the instructions. Type or print legibly. The application must be completed in its
entirety. You must complete all sections. If an area is not applicable, please indicate “N/A”. Incomplete applications or applications completed
that do not comply with the instructions will be returned to the applicant. All spaces requiring a signature must contain an original ink signature;
copies or digital representations are not acceptable. THE APPLICATION FEE MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION AND IS NOT

It is mandatory that an applicant has obtained either a high school diploma, the equivalent of a high school
diploma or a G.E.D. in order to qualify for any Appraiser license.

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
Every person who desires to obtain an Associate Real Estate Trainee Appraiser, State Certified Residential
Real Estate Appraiser or a State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser credential must be no less than
eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application.
If you have foreign credentials, you will need to obtain an evaluation of them that converts the foreign educational credentials to
equivalent American semester credits and courses. The evaluation will need to specify the grade level for which you prepared. It
will also need to indicate the American degree equivalence of your foreign credentials.
We require the original foreign credential evaluation report and copies of your foreign documents made from originals. The
following organizations have met the requirements of the Illinois Administrative Code to qualify as evaluation sources.

To receive credit, courses must be documented by the approved course provider. List each course by provider, course
name (and course number, if any), month and year attended, credit hours and course license number; then, attach
course provider documentation (original sealed transcripts). No screen shots. Copies of course certificates are
acceptable. Education is subject to verification by the Division.

disclose all (active, inactive or expired) licenses and/or permits may result in the denial of this application or
revocation of an issued license and a fine of up to $25,000.

Not less than three (3) appraisal reports will be selected from the Experience Log by Licensing and
Testing staff. The applicant will receive a letter that identifies the addresses of the three assignments.
The applicant will have seven (7) days in which to submit the reports.
The reports must be “true copies”. True copies contain ALL signatures. “Drafts” of any report will NOT be
accepted. Failure to submit a signed report will result in a rejection of that report in its entirety.
Those claiming experience who have NOT signed the Certification MUST be specifically and
conspicuously acknowledged in the body of the report. Their “significant contribution” MUST be clearly
and specifically documented.
Failure to detail specific tasks will result in a denial of application. Include ONLY appraisal reports that
can be supported and documented.
1. Type or print all information in ink only. Experience Logs may also be computer generated
provided that it follows the form exactly. Submission of any unapproved format will result in a
denial of the application.
2. Entries must be made for each assignment claimed as follows:
- Date of Report: Indicate in chronological order the “signature date” of each report. In most cases
the “signature date” will be the same or near to the effective date of value. However, in
retrospective reports, there could be a considerable gap in time between the effective date of
value and the “signature date”.
- Address of Subject Property: The report should be identified in such a way so as to make
report retrieval easy.
- Client Name: The client should be clearly identified.
- Report Type: Mark the appropriate box as to whether the report was Summary, Restricted Use,
or Self-Contained.
- Type of Property: Indicate the type by using the following abbreviations:
- SFR = Single Family Residence
- CDO = Condominium (residential ONLY, or condotels)
- COOP = Cooperative
- AP2, AP3, AP120 = Apartments followed by units (no matter how many units)
- VAC = Vacant Land (NOT for subdivisions or agricultural use)
- IND = Industrial (including industrial condominiums)
- COM = Commercial (including mixed-uses and commercial condominiums)
- AGR = Agriculture (including grain elevators, ranches, farms, etc)
- Anything outside of these common property types should be identified as SPEC = Special
(including houses of worship, fire stations, schools, athletic fields, etc) No other abbreviations

and must be USPAP compliant. An applicant’s experience must be in appraisal work conforming to Standards 1, 2, 3, 4,

Certified Residential: The minimum experience requirement is two thousand five hundred (2,500) hours obtained during not
