TOPPERS 2019
Dhruv Arora
JEE Main 2019 AIR 3

Careers360: Congratulations for your performance in JEE Main 2019! What

was your reaction upon knowing your score?
Dhruv: I really felt good when I saw my result.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied
under? Which school have you studied in?
Dhruv: I studied in Shri Agrasen Vidyalaya, Indore. My board is CBSE.

Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decided
to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Dhruv: I do not know why I want to study engineering and have not really
decided which branch I want to apply for. I have just cleared the examination
but don’t know if I will study engineering.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us some-
thing about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Dhruv: I started off my preparation for JEE Main from 11th standard. My prep-
aration was generally exam based i.e., using the previous year exam papers to
get an idea of what can be asked and what I need to study.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was con-
ducted completely in computer based mode?
Dhruv: I did not face any problems because the computer based mode is very
familiar to me.

Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last

months of JEE Main considering that the board exams are also coming up?
How did you manage preparation for both?
Dhruv: No. The preparation for JEE Main and board exams are totally similar.
There is no major difference other than JEE Main being objective and board
exam being subjective. The syllabus and course are all the same.

5
HOW TO CRACK JEE MAIN: KNOW SUCCESS MANTRAS FROM TOPPERS

Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where?
What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Dhruv: Yes, I am studying at Catalyser. The benefit of coaching is that you get
proper guidance. Everybody studies but the guided student does well.

Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you prac-
tise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year
papers help and how?
Dhruv: More than mock tests, I practiced using previous year question papers.
I feel that solving previous year question papers are the best way to prepare
for the examination.

Careers360: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your
JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for
JEE Main and Class XII?
Dhruv: NCERT books are more than enough for JEE Main. According to me,
no other books are required.

Jayesh Singla
JEE Main 2019 AIR 4

Careers360: Congratulations on scoring Air 4 with 100 percentile in JEE

Main 2019 exam
Jayesh: Even though I was expecting a generous score, I never expected that
I will score 100 percentile. Before the response sheets and answer key were
released, I was expecting anything around 90. But after the release of answer
key and response sheet, I was astonished and amazed. However, my teachers
were quite a confident that my result would be good.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied
under? Which school have you studied in?
Jayesh: I study in class 12 at Apollo Public School, Patiala. I had appeared for
my class 12 CBSE board exams. I like to read books.

Careers360: Tell us about your preparation strategy. How did you planned
your studies for qualifying JEE Main 2019.
Jayesh: I focused mainly on studying regular rather than making an coercive
attempt. I use to study at least 5-6 hours regularly after school hours. I made
a plan and a time table and followed it throughout the duration of my JEE
Main 2019 preparation. I solved mock tests and previous year papers to get
an extra edge in my JEE Main preparation.

Careers360: How did you managed to take time for JEE Main 2019 amidst
your class 12 board preparation. Did you faced any difficulties like lack of
time as such.
Jayesh: I studied mainly for my class 12 exams and for JEE Main, i solved
mock test papers and previous year papers. Solving mock tests and previous
year paper gave me an exact idea of how questions are being framed, which
topics are asked more over others and exam pattern. I studied mainly from
the NCERT books for my class 12 exam as well as JEE Main.

Careers360: Did you took help from any coaching institute for the prepara-
tion of JEE Main?
Jayesh: I took weekend class batch of Allen Institute. The study material pro-
vided by them helped me in nurturing my preparation level. I use to practice
mock test papers provided by the institute and attended classes on Saturday’s
and Sunday’s to clear my doubts.

7
HOW TO CRACK JEE MAIN: KNOW SUCCESS MANTRAS FROM TOPPERS

Careers360: Did your followed any particular books for preparation?

Jayesh: I studied mainly from the NCERT books. Apart from that, I solved
previous year papers, mock tests and study material from the Allen Institute

Careers360: Which stream you want to study in engineering and any particu-
lar institute you have in your mind?
Jayesh: I do not have any particular institute in my mind, but would certainly
study computer science. I love computer programming and coding and want
to study more of it.

Careers360: Have you appeared in JEE Main 2019 April attempt?

Jayesh: No, I did not appeared in April attempt, I am focussing mainly to
score high in the JEE Advance and will not be appearing in April attempt.

Careers360: Who is your biggest inspiration in life and why?

Jayesh: I believe that working hard and consistency in efforts towards achiev-
ing goal is the key to success. Make plan for your studies or the goal you
have in life and work hard to achieve it.

Careers360: Everyone around would be reading this JEE Main 2019 Topper
Interview, what preparation tips your want to share with the future aspirants
of JEE Main.
Jayesh: I would suggest students not to overload themselves with the para-
dox of JEE Main. Make a study time table, plan your studies accordingly and
most important, study regularly.

Konda Renu
JEE Main 2019 AIR 9

Careers360: Did you also appear in January? What was your score then?
Konda Renu: Yes, I did. Then my overall percentile was 99.99 and I just
missed the 100 percentile.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied
under? Which school did you study in?
Konda Renu: I belong to Anantapur. My father works for the Rural
Development department and my mother works in Grama Panchayat. I joined
Sri Chaitanya , Vijayawada when I was in class 9 and I also studied my inter-
mediate from here. I scored 10 CGPA in my Intermediate exams.

Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decid to
study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Konda Renu: My interest area is Artificial Intelligence and so I have to take up
Computer Science engineering for this. I am preparing for JEE Advanced 2019
as my goal institution is IIT Madras or Bombay.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us some-
thing about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Konda Renu: There is no special JEE Main preparation here. It is all integrated
in our syllabus and we prepare for both Intermediate and JEE exams at the
same time. Having said that, we completed our syllabus in August 2018 and
then on it was just revision.

Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last

months of JEE Main? If you have appeared for JEE Main January, was there
any difference in your strategy?
Konda Renu: Not really. The institute has devised a strategy that we follow.
Except for the last week which was full of intensive test giving, the remaining
months were all the same where we were taught, then we revised and finally
we had a test every week.

9
HOW TO CRACK JEE MAIN: KNOW SUCCESS MANTRAS FROM TOPPERS

Careers360: What are the benefits of coaching according to you?

Konda Renu: My faculty is pretty supportive. They take one on one counsel-
ling if we need it and point out where we could improve and where we could
do better. That kind of focussed support is available with coaching only.

Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you prac-
tise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year
papers help and how?
Konda Renu: It was part of our schedule. We had weekly tests all year
through. Then we had intensive tests only in the last month as I had men-
tioned earlier. Practice makes one perfect. I think, we lose our exam fear, learn
to manage our time and in short we become familiar with the entrance exam
system.

Careers360: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your
JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for
JEE Main and Class XII?
Konda Renu: I actually did not need any reference books. My coaching mate-
rial was very detailed and covered everything required.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was con-
ducted completely in computer based mode?
Konda Renu: Not that I can think of. It went smoothly both the times.

Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in
JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main
exam?
Konda Renu: If you look at my subject scores, you can make out that
Chemistry is my least favourite of the three. If I were to choose a favourite,
then Maths would come first with Physics a close second. I think there were
no issue during the exam. We practised well so we didn’t feel any different
from normal exams except for the awareness that this was JEE Main.

Careers360: Do you feel that the new system with two attempts is benefi-
cial? How so?
Konda Renu: I think that this is good. So if I didn’t do well in the first one, I still
can put in more effort to attempt the second one in a better manner. So, yes,
it’s good for students to have options.

10

Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous
success in JEE Main?
Konda Renu: My parents undoubtedly. They have been solid behind me in
everything I have done so far. Then come my faculty at Sri Chaitanya. They
helped me stay grounded, focussed such that I could perform well in the
exam.

Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What
are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Konda Renu: We do get outing time as we call it. I would go out to watch
movies to relax and distress.

Careers360: Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?

Konda Renu: APJ Abdul Kalam without a doubt. He is inspiring to every child.

Careers360: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students

across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tack-
ling the JEE Main exam?
Konda Renu: Well work hard, stay focussed and the rest will follow. For girls,
I have a message. We as girls are sort of overly emotional so we take it seri-
ously to heart when we encounter setbacks and such. It is imperative to
detach from intense emotions and get going. Success will be yours then.

Sambit Behera
JEE Main 2019 AIR 11

Careers360: Congratulations for your performance in JEE Main 2019! What

was your reaction upon knowing your score?
Sambit: I was thrilled and delighted to know that I had scored a hundred per-
centile in JEE Main 2019. It is a cherishable experience since finally all the
hard work has paid off. I was expecting to score a good percentile after the
response sheet was released. I calculated the probable percentile that I would
score after I discussed the answers in the response sheet with my teachers.
However, scoring a hundred percentile is like a dream come true. Though it is
just the first stage and I have to crack JEE Advanced also.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied
under? Which school have you studied in?
Sambit: I hail from Odisha and had relocated to Kota almost three years ago
with an aim to crack JEE. I studied at Disha Delphi Public School and will be
appearing in CBSE board exam.

Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decided
to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Sambit: I have a passion for mathematics and science as well as coding. I
had learnt basic coding as well. It is my dream to pursue computer science
from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us some-
thing about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Sambit: I started preparing for JEE Main 2019 almost three years ago. When
I was in Class XI, I started preparing for JEE Main. I made sure that my con-
cepts are clear. Once, I was confident about the concepts, I shifted my focus
to JEE Advanced 2019. It is in the last fifteen to twenty days before the JEE
Main 2019 that I shifted gears and concentrated on JEE Main 2019 only.

One should ensure that they revise everyday what is taught to them or else
there will be a backlog and it will be difficult for you to revise so much course.
If you have any doubts, make you sure that you clear it then and there. Do not
wait for it to be answered later on.

12
HOW TO CRACK JEE MAIN: KNOW SUCCESS MANTRAS FROM TOPPERS

As far as my daily routine is concerned, I used to attend coaching classes

from 6:30 a.m till the afternoon. In the evening I used to start studying from
4:30 p.m and used to study for at least three to four hours. After that I used
to go for jogging for at least half an hour. On returning from jogging, I used to
have dinner after which I used to study till 11:00 p.m

Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was con-
ducted completely in computer based mode?
Sambit: I did not face any problem at the time of JEE Main 2019. I had
reached the exam at least an hour before the commencement of the exam.

Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last

months of JEE Main considering that the board exams are also coming up?
How did you manage preparation for both?
Sambit: I did not adopt any specific strategy for JEE Main 2019 and followed
the regular routine. I also studied the topics that are covered in the board
exams. I was simultaneously studying for my board exams while I was prepar-
ing for the JEE Main 2019.

Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where?
What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Sambit: I did take coaching. It was from Allen. One of the biggest advantag-
es of coaching is that your doubts get cleared instantly. The teachers at the
coaching institute possess sound knowledge about the subjects and they are
able to guide us and show us the right way to solve the problems. Whenever I
used to have doubts, I used to get back to the teachers at the coaching insti-
tute and they used to solve the problems.

Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you prac-
tise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year
papers help and how?
Sambit: I used to appear in all the mock tests which were arranged by the
coaching institute as it helps to prepare one for the actual day when the exam
will be conducted. I made sure that the conceptual mistakes that I was mak-
ing at the time of mock tests are rectified so that I did not repeat the mistakes
on the day of the exam. In between the exams, I used to solve the sample
papers. I solved the previous years question papers and also the computer
based entrance test of 2018 as the exam pattern was similar.

Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in
JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main
exam?
Sambit: Since Maths is my strong point i found it easy. Some questions from
organic chemistry were tricky but solvable. The most important thing is to
remain calm, have faith in your ability. If you panic while taking the exam, then
you would not perform well. If any question is difficult and you are not able to
solve it, then in such a case, you should move onto the next question.

Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous
success in JEE Main?
Sambit: Consistent hardwork and the right guidance from my teachers and
support from my parents are some of the factors which helped me to per-

Advanced.

Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What
are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Sambit: If there was some movie that was being showcased at the movie
theatre, I used to watch it on sunday. My hobbies include listening to music.
I used to try to squeeze out time and listen to music during the course of my
preparation for JEE Main 2019.

Samiksha Das: For 11th and 12th standard, I studied from Disha Delphi Public
School, Kota. Up to class 10, I was in DPS, Surat.

I’m interested in Computer Science for the same reason.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us some-
thing about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Samiksha Das: I started my JEE Main preparation just after my board exams

Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last

months of JEE Main? If you have appeared for JEE Main January, was there
any difference in your strategy?
Samiksha Das: I had not read my NCERT textbooks thoroughly while prepar-

What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Samiksha Das: I took coaching for JEE Main and JEE Advanced from Allen.
The teachers in coaching classes give you enough practice and guidelines for

should have a good grasp on the topics mentioned in them. Without that, you
cannot score well like me in the January session.

Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in
JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main
exam?
Samiksha Das: Chemistry was the toughest and math was the easiest. There
were some topics which we had to rote learn to memorize so that was tough
for me.

Chetan Reddy: I am happy about the rank and since I had already scored 100
percentile in January, it was nothing new. My best of the two scores are - 115
marks in Maths, 120 in Chemistry and 115 in Physics. Again, I didn’t bother
much about the scores as my focus this time around was JEE Advanced. I
have to really do well for that as it is the entry to my dream of studying at IIT
Bombay.
After the January session, Chetan had this to say - “We had matched my
answers with the official answer key so it was understood that I would score
well but 100 percentile – that I didn’t know as this is the first time NTA is con-
ducting the exam and also the first time a new normalization process is being
enforced. JEE Main 2019 has been a good experience and I hope this continu-
ous to JEE Advanced too. My parents are very happy and proud and I am glad
I could bring laurels to them”.

Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. Which board have you studied
under? Which school have you studied in?
Chetan Reddy: I hail from Tadepalli which is in Krishna District. I have stud-
ied under the Intermediate Board of Andhra Pradesh and am shortly going to
appear for my second year Intermediate exams next month. I have studied
from Sri Chaitanya Institute.

Careers360: Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decided
to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Chetan Reddy: I was in class six when my interest was sparked in engineer-
ing. It helped with my father being Professor and Head of Department of
Electronics at the Lakireddy Bali Reddy College of Engineering. I am inter-
ested in Computer Science and Electronics. I think my dream IIT would be IIT
Bombay or Delhi and these two branches as my choice. I am fine with getting
any one of them.

Careers360: When did you start your JEE Main preparation? Tell us some-
thing about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Main?
Chetan Reddy: I started preparing for JEE Main 2019 when I was in class 8.
I enrolled for a foundation course that continued till I completed my class 10.
Then I enrolled for the intensive integrated coaching at Sri Chaitanya with JEE
as my prime target. By August 2018, we had completed our syllabus and then
on, it was just revision and practice. I think all of that has helped me get a grip
on the concepts while the practice made us very much ready for the exam.
The daily routine is pretty much the same with classes all day interspersed
by requisite breaks. The strategy was to complete the syllabus as early as
August and get on with revision as well as ample practice. I just followed that.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulties since the examination was con-
ducted completely in computer based mode?
Chetan Reddy: No, everything was fine. There were no glitches or any such
problem. Everything was smooth. The only problem for me were two ques-
tions in Physics whose answers seemed ambiguous to me. Otherwise in
terms of conduction of the exam, arrangements, it was all fine. We have been
coached and prepared for the CBT mode so that was also not a problem in
any way.

Careers360: Was there a difference in the preparation strategy in the last

months of JEE Main considering that the board exams are also coming up?
How did you manage preparation for both?
Chetan Reddy: Not really, our first target is JEE Advanced. JEE Main is a sub-
set of that preparation. Intermediate exams are subjective so that is the major
difference but the syllabus is almost same for all of these so I don’t think
there is any real difference in preparation strategies. However, we did have
classes for Intermediate also and now that JEE Main is out of the way, I shall
concentrate on my Intermediate exams which start next month.

Careers360: Did you take coaching for JEE Main and if yes from where?
What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Chetan Reddy: Yes, I have been taking coaching since class 8. From then till
class 10, we had this fundamental coaching that allowed us to get ready for
something like JEE Main. My Intermediate as mentioned before was at Sri
Chaitanya, where the teachers took a lot of care to help us study, understand
and prepare us for the exam. I think that coaching is beneficial as there is this
dedicated team who filter the topics, syllabus and break them up for us to
study. It makes everything easier. The doubts are cleared as soon as we raise
them. So yes, I feel coaching was beneficial for me.

Careers360: Mock tests and sample papers – how extensively did you prac-
tise with the help of these? Do you think practising from the previous year
papers help and how?
Chetan Reddy: Actually yes. Mock tests are important. They help with time
management, rid you of your exam fear and help you analyse your prepara-
tion levels. We had two tests every week and they were all computer based to
allow us to get familiar with the mode. We were taught the topics and tested
so if we were unclear anywhere, we could ratify that. In the final days before
the exam, we had tests everyday but by then we were complete with revision
of all topics. The tests at the institute were designed using past year question
papers and all kinds of questions.

Careers360: Are there any special books that you feel have helped with your
JEE Main preparation? Are the school text books adequate for preparing for
JEE Main and Class XII?
Chetan Reddy: The coaching material provided by my institute was very
detailed and exam specific. So I really didn’t need to check out any reference
books. Our teachers would actually incorporate all the questions, concepts
which they felt we needed to know in our curriculum so I really didn’t need to
look further than them.

Careers360: Which subject was the easiest and which was the toughest in
JEE Main? What do you think is a tough thing to manage during the JEE Main
exam?
Chetan Reddy: Actually, I didn’t find any subject too hard. If you were to ask
me to pinpoint, then I felt Chemistry and Maths were relatively easier. Physics-
I felt two questions had ambiguous answers; wasn’t sure of them so I kind of
think that this may have made me feel that it was tougher. I really didn’t feel
the question paper to be hard in any way. If you were strong conceptually, you
could do well.

Careers360: What do you think are the key factors behind your stupendous
success in JEE Main?
Chetan Reddy: Hard work and dedication of course would be big factors. I
also feel that a major portion of the credit should also go to my teachers and
parents. My teachers because they took all the time to clear my doubts, moti-
vated me and ensured that I was ready to tackle the exam well. That kind of
dedication makes me feel grateful to them. The second would be my parents.
They have ensured that I was in a place where I could study well and sup-
ported me in all ways.

Careers360: Will you be appearing for the April session of JEE Main 2019
too?
Chetan Reddy: Yes, I will definitely appear for the April session. Since the bet-
ter of the two scores will be considered and I think for ranking, the subject
wise percentile scores will also be taken into consideration so yes, I plan to
appear for the exam. I have nothing to lose considering that I do have 100
percentile now.

Careers360: How did you de-stress yourself during the preparation? What
are your hobbies? How often could you pursue them?
Chetan Reddy: Every day we were given a break in the afternoon and in the
evening. I like chess so I would play that. Every two weeks we were also given
some time off like a day so we could go out. That’s enough I feel for anyone
since the monotony of study gets broken with these breaks.

Careers360: Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?

Chetan Reddy: My father is my inspiration, my strongest motivator and my
strongest supporter. He has always stood by me and my confidence comes
from that. If you have that kind of love, there is nothing else you need to forge
forward.

Careers360: You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students

across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tack-
ling the JEE Main exam?
Chetan Reddy: Well, be clear on your goals. Once you are sure of that, start
preparing for it. For JEE Main, get your concepts right as you can work the
answer out if you know how to and that is by knowing the concepts. Second,
it’s just an exam; not a life and death matter. If that stress is not there, you
can actually write the exam in a better frame of mind and do well. Don’t give
up no matter what.

WE WISH ALL JEE MAIN ASPIRANTS BEST OF LUCK!
