Introduction:
Law touches every aspect of our lives and more so in the business environment. This course intends
to develop a body of legal knowledge and to give future business leaders and decision makers a
competitive edge by understanding basics of legal framework in which they function. This course
covers basics of business law and deals with Contract Law, Company Law, Negotiable Instruments
Act and consumer laws, etc. No prior legal training is assumed. Classroom discussions will be
based on business cases and excerpts from judicial opinions, statutes, and news reports and
analysis.

Objective: To make students familiar with the basic provisions of law concerning incorporation
and regulation of business organizations

 To create awareness about the numerous legislations passed by the Parliament


 To analyze through various cases the judicial attitude towards these regulations decided by
the courts

Pedagogy:
Besides lectures, the pedagogy involves study of decided case laws and practical situations with a
view to put across the application of business legislations in the real life situations. Assignments
(especially group assignments) would be given to help students to look at the application or
otherwise of various business laws in the industry.
