My Reflections/ Insights

1. While you were observing the learners, did you recall your own experiences when you were
their age? What similarities or difference do have with the learners you observed?

Yes, I was typical pupil then in a public school, who wasn’t actively participating in
discussion, but then I felt bored my tendencies was roamed around and doing chitchat with
my classmates. I can relate myself, seeing other pupils who were hyperactive in the
classroom.

What amazed me is the culture of listening and discipline. Not unlike that our time that
when teachers called us from being noisy automatically zip our mouth and sat. It is a
different thing nowadays! Learning retention and culture already evolved. Teachers do not
mind even yelling in front scrutinizing their noise, instead they continue their chitchat.

2. you cannot forget for the positive or negative reason. How did he/she help or not help you
with your needs (physical, emotional, social, and cognitive)? How did it affect you?

I have my teacher in my grade school who often gave me positive response and feedback.
She was my advisory teacher in grade five and my math teacher in my grade six. The praises
I got from her encourage me to study more and learn further.

3. Which is your favorite theory f development? How can this guide you as a future teacher?

I like Bandura’s Social Learning Theory, modeling. A person often molds his knowledge and
character from the people he used to mingle with an the things he watched on social
media. Being a teacher is not just a mere occupation, rather a passion. Teacher should be
aware that whatever he/she acts, talks, and even his/her own mannerism could eventually
.manifest to the attitude and behavior of his/her students.

Read the following statement carefully. Then write your observation report on the provided space.

1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls?
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior?
4. Can the learners’ already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look into their listening skills. And ability to concentrate.
Be guided by these questions as you do your observation of the classroom management. It is also good
to ask the teacher for additional information, so you can verify your observation. Write your notes
below; and then organize your data in the table that follows.

1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books,
students’ belongings etc.)
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room?
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules?
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance, assignment of
monitors, warm- up activities, etc.) how are they done?
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
7. If a learner in not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher do?(behavior
strategies)
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors?(behavior strategies)

Observation Notes:

There were sections in the classroom where the books and teaching aids are placed. A cabinet located
beside of the room were text book are found. Further, there was memo board on the wall where the
schedules and other important notes were attached. According to the teacher, pupils are observant of
schools rules and policies.

Oftentimes, before the teacher commence the morning class they started with a prayer, followed by
attendance roll call then lesson proper. I’ve noticed that the teacher reviewed their past lesson before
moving forward to a new discussion. After doing a lecture for about 20 minutes the teacher provide an
activity. She gave instructions and examples before pupils started their group work. Pupils were grouped
by two(2) by number counting. Of course, the pupils were noisy while others were doing chit chat with
their seatmates. The teacher warned the pupils to keep silent several times, unfornately, they continued
being noisy while doing their group activity.

Indeed the teacher emphasized that the children nowadays are difficult to deal with especially in
correcting their ways and behavior. Instead, the teacher would tend to ignore those who are not
listening rather wasting time to be distracted or else would get stuck and might not able to finish her
lesson for a particular period. This is the common behavior of “millennials” today as what the
emphasized.
Aspect of Classroom Description Effect of the Learners
Management
1. Specific Areas in the The classroom in not crowded Learners would tend at ease,
Classroom for 15 population of pupils concentrate
2. Classroom Rules The classroom rules are taught Learners will be reminded of the
by the teacher rules and become aware of their
bad behavior.
3. Classroom Procedures The teacher followed her Learner will be guided
teaching guide/ lesson plan. accordingly

4. Daily Routines The teacher starts the class with Learner would be refreshed and
a prayer the review the lesson would correlate their past
before moving to new lesson learning to the new lesson
5. Seating Arrangement Most pupils are seated with Learner would feel aloof with
friends and oftentimes seated their opposite sex/gender
according to same sex/gender
6. Handling The teacher gives precise Learner would know and
misbehavior/off-task disciplinary action to the student understand their limitations.
behavior if they make particular mistake.
7. Reinforcement of The teachers gives Learners would be encourage to
Positive Behavior acknowledgement to students do better and even excel in the
who would show positive class
behavior

My Analysis

1. How did the classroom organizations and routines affect the learners’ behavior?

It was refreshing and motivating to pupils. Granting the learners short span of attention, there
was an activity conducted after discussion. With this, teacher was able to grasp and retain the
attention of the pupils.

2. What should the teacher have in mind when he/she designs the classroom organized and
routines? What theories and principles you have in mind?

Basically, the goal of the teacher is for the pupils to learn. Considering the age range of pupils
that is 11-13 years old, which consider mid-level of adult or puberty development children are
ten d to be explorative and creative. Also, the fact that they are “millennial learner” the teacher
must engage motivational teaching strategies that would enable pupils to learn with their span
of attention. Therefore, I would recommend for a “Learner-Centered” teaching approach.

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In
motivating students? Why were they effective?

A positive classroom discipline should be administered by the teacher to build a classroom

environment where constructive interactions would be norm and disciplinary consequences
minimized. Hence, it is important that the teacher provide immediate, habitual, and positive
feedback.

My Reflections

1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade /year level do
you see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why?

I would rather prefer to teach in high school considering my phasing and teaching
expertise. Though I am fond of little children, I might able to get bored. Subsequently, I
will to teach in higher level that is senior high school. As what have mention earlier, I
would adapt a “Leraner-Centered Approach”. I am just guide by their (students) side and
would let my students develop a sense of confidence and creativeness in dealing with
discussions. I want to be more realistic the fact that when these individuals graduated
from their chosen career,
2. Make a list of rules are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose these
rules?
 “One Mouth Policy”, when somebody is talking the rest should listen and
zip their mouth.
 Respect each other opinion.
 Abide by school rules and regulations.
 Be creative and resourceful.

Considering that those are in senior HS, these individuals are apt to ready themselves to
a more challenging school environment that is college.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Yes. Students should be part in making class rules and policies so they would learn how
to set their boundaries and responsibilities. Consequently, they would able to embrace
importance of accountability which in the future benefits them when they work or make
living. They would be self-reliant and independent making sense of their own worth.

LEARNING EPISODE 4: Individual Differences and Learner’s

Interaction (focusing on differences in gender, racial, religious backgrounds)

An Observation Guide for the Learner’s Characteristics

Read the following carefully before you begin to observe. Then write your observation report on the
space provided on the next page.

1. Find out the number of students. Gather data to their ages, gender, racial groups, religious and
ethnic backgrounds.

There were about 15 pupils in the classroom. More than half of the classroom population is girls.
Mostly , pupils are seated with their friends and oftentimes seated according to same
sex/gender.

During class:

1. How much interaction is there in the classroom? Describe how the students interact with one another
and with the teacher. Are there groups that interact more with the teacher than others

There were pupils participative during discussion, some were busy doing chit chat with their seatmates. I
observes that pupils comfortable and free express their selves.when the teacher asked pipils to answer
the questions on the blackboard, they were receptive and attentive.

2 . Observe the learners seated at the back and the front part of the room . do they behave and interact
differently?

There is no difference with regard to level of participation of pupils sitting in front and at the back

3 .Describe the relationship among the learner. Do the learners cooperate with or compete against each
other?

Generally there were sub-groups within the class. Those who are friends oftentimes are seatmates.
They individuals who often mingled each other.

4. Which students participate actively? Which students ask for most help?

The same response in question # 2. Regardless of the sitting arrangement of pupils they were
participating.
5. When a student is called and cannot answer the teacher`s question do the classmates try to help him?
Or do they raise their so that the teacher will call them instead?

There were pupils who tried to answer the question without being asked while the others pupils raise
their hand to let them call and respond.

Learning Episode 2: The Learners Characteristics and Needs

Which is your favorite theory of development? How can this guide you as a future teacher?

Clip some reading about the theory and paste them here

Bandura’s social learning theory stresses the importance of observational learning, imitation and modeling. He
grounded his understanding of a models primary function, which is to transmit information the observer. This
function occurs in any in three ways:

1. Modeled behaviors serve as cues to initiate similar behaviors in others.

2. They also serve to strengthen or weaken the learners exiting restraints against the performance of a
modeled behavior.
3. They are used to demonstrate new patterns of behavior.

Now our classroom teacher can use the social learning theory as a way pf understanding the current behavior of
some of the students, especially in the cases of troublesome children. Teachers can use the influences and
people that these children observe as a point of research to begin to understand why children act. Moreover
the social learning theory can be used as a method f modeling good behavior to children. Observing a teacher
behaving in a particular way and their responses in different situations can help to encourage children to
behave in the same way. The cause of a problem or success may be accounted to a Childs exposure to another
person and their behaviors. All teachers are role models and it is their responsibility to ensure that they behave
in a way that meets the expectations of a role model. By doing so teacher can help develop and shaped children
in a way that is beneficial to their learning and development.
