EXPERIMENTAL DATA:
DESCRIPTION:
Three Hinged arch form is usually used while constructing bridges This type of construction is deemed
suitable when compression-proof building materials are available.
Horizontal thrust acts at the supports to allow much lower bending moments in the arch than in the case of a
beam on two supports with the same span. A longitudinal compressive force is active in the arch to cause this
effect.
A three-hinged arch consists of a curved beam mounted on two fixed supports and usually featuring the so-
called crown hinge at its top. The hinges on the two fixed supports absorb vertical and horizontal forces, and
are known as abutment hinges. Their connecting line is the springing line. The crown hinge renders the system
statically determinate.
One meter flat bridge deck is formed using two symmetrical arches. The arches have springing's (hinges) at
their outer most ends and at the crown (center), thus creating the three hinges.
Two easily interchangeable arch arrangements are supplied, one of which being a symmetrical arch and the
other being an unsymmetrical arch. The arch bridge deck allows for unrestricted positioning of the loads along
the arch span.
