Note: Answer question no. .1 and any three from the


remaining questions.

1. Explain any four of the passages below with


reference to their contexts supplying brief critical
comments where necessary : 4x10=40

(a) His comb was redder than the fyn coral,


And batailed, as it were a castel wal;
His byle was blak, and as the jeet it shoon;
Lyk asur were his legges, and his toon.
(b) There, in a Meadow, by the Rivers side,
A Flocke of Nymphes I chaunced to espy,
All lovely Daughters of the Flood thereby,
With goodly greenish locks all loose untyde.

No, only where my childhood was unspent.
