2) BRIEF INTRODUCTION OF THE INSTITUTION

2.1. STC... Excellence is the key

“Service to People is Service to God” is the noble saying of our elders. As such, Sree
Saraswathi Thyagaraja College (STC) continues to believe that “Service to Students is Service
to God”. Guided by such values, the institution commenced its indelible mark on educational
service in the year 1997. The seed for this noblest of noble services was sown by three
philanthropic families with a view to providing value and skill based higher education to the
rural students.

The value of this institution is deeply rooted on spreading “Knowledge, Wisdom and
Compassion” backed up by is philosophy which reads as “When an Institution becomes very
important to the society, it no longer belongs only to its founders, but to the whole society”.

The institution is located in nature friendly and picturesque Pollachi with rural focused,
socially oriented, NAAC accredited, ISO Certified, UGC approved (MBA & MCA approved by
AICTE), professionally managed, autonomous institution, affiliated to Bharathiar University,
Coimbatore. The institution was re-accredited by NAAC with A Grade during the year 2013.

The milestone of the institution is very significant. In the year 2000, STC got the coveted ISO
9001:2000 certification from the international organization through National Quality
Assurance Registrar, UK. The institution got the prestigious 2 (f) 12 (B) Status from
University Grants Commission, New Delhi during the year 2003. The institution was
recognized as the 2nd Best (overall) by Bharathiar University (amongst 150 colleges affiliated
to it) in the year 2008-09 (the only year when this rating was done). Our institution also got
“Best Magazine Award” from Bharathiar University in the year 2011 and during the year
2013-14, we stood second in Bharathiar University in the field of sports.
PHILOSOPHY
“When an Institution becomes very important
to the society, it no longer belongs only to its
founders, but to the whole society"
Vision
To become a Premier Institution and emerge as a University of Excellence
Mission
Achieve National and International recognition in the field of Education and Training in the
areas of Core competency.
By ensuring the highest quality in infrastructure, Technology and faculty, and their
continuous up gradation.
For producing students with Knowledge, Wisdom and Compassion.
Values

KNOWLEDGE WISDOM COMPASSION

4
Our logo has three beautiful Symbols: the books, the Sun and the lotus.
Books represent Knowledge, the Sun dispels the darkness of ignorance
signifying Wisdom and the lotus symbolizes the unfolding of spirituality
representing Compassion. From books, we gain knowledge and when
properly directed knowledge ripens into Wisdom. This Wisdom leads to
compassion. This is the path towards Enlightenment.

the research activities of the faculties of the College as well as to initiate socio economic
researches and consultancy projects in order to open up the vistas of academic institution to
contribute its knowledge for the benefit of the society. The college is having a visionary
approach with futuristic outlook emerging as a research and development centre to involve

III. Centre for Training & Placement (CTP)
Education and Placement are equally important. Our College has established a full-fledged
and highly active Placement Cell, which has actively taken up the responsible task of placing
the students in leading companies. Students go for higher education not only for graduation,
but for jobs and placements. "Will the institution get a job for my son or daughter?" is the
first question invariably every parent asks the college authorities before they would admit

16
their wards. Realizing this ground reality and the expectations of parents and students STC
has established a full-fledged and highly dynamic centre for training and placement. The
major activity of the centre is to facilitate training programmes to the students on
Employability Skills (Aptitude & Soft Skills) by the experts from academic & corporate fields
and placing them through campus interviews and Job fairs in leading organizations like
