every kind. It is given importance in Atty. Orlando S. Rimando National High School
(AOSRNHS) through the school publication Ang Ginto since it is still very timely to dissiminate
the right information among students and people in the community of Compostela Valley to fight
against misinformation and disinformation.
The skills and talents of the Ang Ginto writers were showcased in school year 2017-
2018 when news page of their school paper won as the best among the rest in the Philippines.
Ang Ginto was declared as top nine best school paper all over Compostela Valley too. History
repeat itself as Ang Ginto won as overall champion in the Division Schools’ Press Conference
(DSPC) 2017 for the third consecutive time.
In the school year 2018-2019, Ivan Alviso, the editorial cartoonist of Ang Ginto won 1st
place in the Regional Schools’ Press Conference (RSPC) 2018 and competed in the National
Schools’ Press Conference (NSPC) 2019 held in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Lyssa JoyceKamiyama
also won 5th place in editorial writing in the RSPC 2018.
In the DSPC 2019, Ang Ginto gained back its title as the overall champion for the fourth
time around. They won 1st place in Radio Broadcasing, Collaborative Desktop Publishing,
Online Publishing, News Writing, Science and Technology Writing, Photojournalism, Sports
Writing and Copyreading and Headline Writing Category. They have the second best school
paper in Compostela Valley. They won the 1st place in Editorial Page and Science and
Technology Page. They also won 2nd place in News, Sports and Feature Page.
The Ang Ginto hosted the Campus Journalism Workshop 2019 in the municipality of
Maco who invited national- winning School Paper Advisers (SPA) from CALABARZON that
imparted their knowledge towards the Macoeños campus journalists.
The Ang Ginto journalists headed by the Editor-in-Chief Mark John Hilario shared their
talents in campus journalism in the community by doing Campus Journalism Workshop and
Tutoring 2019 in elementary and secondary schools just like in Maco Heights Central
Elementary School.
The Ang Ginto, headed by its SPA Arniel Castillo initiated outreach activities in the
community just like in Barangay Manipongol, Compostela Valley where the journalists gave
donations to the Indigenous People’s community, taught the children to read and write and
satisfied their hunger through feeding program.
These certainly are the demonstration of Ang Ginto of empowering their community
through campus journalism.
