Add Math Worksheet - Curve Sketching & Inequalities

1) The document provides 14 problems involving sketching graphs and solving inequalities related to quadratic functions. The problems involve expressing quadratic functions in different forms, finding the domain and range of functions, determining the nature of turning points, and solving quadratic inequalities. 2) Some examples of the problems include sketching the graph of f(x) = x(x + 4) - 5 and solving the related inequality x(x + 4) > 5. Another problem involves expressing the function f(x) = 1 - 6x - 3x^2 in the form u(x - v)^2 + w and determining if its turning point is a maximum or minimum. 3) The problems cover a

Hence, solve the inequality, 𝑥(𝑥 + 4) > 5

2. The function 𝑓 is defined by 𝑓: 𝑥 → 1 − 6𝑥 − 3𝑥 2 , 𝑥 ∈ ℝ

i. Express in the form 𝑢(𝑥 − 𝑣)2 + 𝑤, 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑢, 𝑣, 𝑤 ∈ ℝ.

ii. By sketching the graph of 𝑦 = 𝑓(𝑥), or otherwise, state the turning point P of the

graph and indicate whether P is a maximum or a minimum.
