(Citrus sinesis L.) Peels is a by-product of peeled oranges and are meantfor disposal.

But there are

studies that had seen the potential of these so-calledwastes that are beneficial for humans. D-limonene
is a terpene that is found in orange peel oils. This component isvery lethal to insects. According to
scientists the oil extracted from orange peelsended the lives of their insect specimens upon contact with
the oil. This means thatorange peels is an effective active ingredient to get rid of insects
especiallymosquitoes and cockroaches. There are ways to extract essential oil from plants, butsteam
distillation is the most effective way of extracting the oil from orange peels.Steam distillation is the
distillation of a liquid in a current of steam, used especially topurify liquids that are not very volatile and
are immiscible with water.Insecticides nowadays are synthetically made, but researchers have found
thatsome active ingredients used in commercial insecticides are giving side-effects to theperson
affected. Inhaling them causes the victim to be not able to breathe properly, while skin contact leads to
rashes and itching. Knowing that it is currently being usedin the households, it may lead to serious
infections and diseases in the futures. In line with this, the study, “Steam Distillation of Orange (Citrus
sinesis L.)Peels as a Raw Material for the Production of Natural Insecticide” aims tolessen the waste
disposal of orange peels and to propose an alternative insecticidethat is less harmful than the
commercial product, but conforms to the standards of themarket.REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATUREP a g

The orange is the fruit of the citrus species Citrus × sinensis in the family Rutaceae, native to China. It is
also called sweet orange, to distinguish it from the related Citrus × aurantium, referred to as bitter
orange. The sweet orange reproduces asexually; varieties of sweet orange arise through mutations.
