Maths Solution

1. The document provides examples of calculating the volume and surface area of cuboid shapes of varying dimensions. It also includes examples such as calculating the number of matchboxes or crates that can fit inside larger containers. 2. Dimensions and capacities are provided for examples such as a water tank, storage pit, and wall in order to calculate attributes like the number of bricks required or the surface area to be painted. 3. The calculations demonstrate finding volumes and surface areas of rectangular prisms, as well as using volume relationships to determine quantities that fit inside larger volumes.

SOLUTIONS [ EXERCISE – 15A]

1.(i) Given, l = 12cm, b = 8cm, h = 4.5cm.

Volume of cuboid= (l × b × h) cubic units
= 12cm × 8cm × 4.5cm
= 432cm3

Lateral surface area of cuboid

= [2(l + b) × h] surface unit
= [2(12+8) × 4.5] cm2
= [2 × 20 × 4.5] cm2
= 180 cm2

Total surface area of cuboid

= 2(lb + bh + hl) square units
= 2(12cm × 8cm + 8cm ×4.5cm + 4.5cm × 12cm)
= 2(96cm2 + 36cm2 + 54cm2)
=2 × 186cm2
= 372 cm2

1.ii Given, l = 26m, b= 14m, h= 6.5m

Volume of cuboid = (l × b × h) cubic unit
= 26m × 14m × 6.5m
= 2366m3
Lateral surface Area of cuboid
= [2(l + b) × h] surface unit
= [2 (26+14) × 6.5] m2
= [2 × 40 × 6.5] m2
= 520 m2.
Total surface Area of cuboid
= 2(lb + bh + hl) square units
= 2(26m × 14m + 14m × 6.5m + 6.5m × 26m)
= 2(364m2+91m2+169m2)
= 2 × 624m2
= 1248m2.
1.iii
Given, l= 15m, b= 6m,
h= 5dm
h= 5 × 1/10m [ ∵ 1dm = 1/10m]
h= 0.5m
Volume of cuboid = ( l×b×h)cubic unit
= (15×6×0.5) m3
= 45m3

Lateral surface Area of cuboid

= [2(l + b) ×h] square unit
= [2(15+6) × 0.5] m2
= [2 × 21 × 0.5] m2
= 21 m2.
Total surface Area of cuboid
=2(lb + bh + hl) square units
=2(15×6 + 6×0.5 + 15×0.5) m2
=2(90+3+7.5) m2
=2×100.5 m2
=201m2.

1.iv
Given,

b=25cm = 0.25m [∵ 1cm = 1/100 m]
h=6m,
Volume of cuboid = ( l×b×h)cubic unit
= (24×.25×6) m3
= 36m3

Lateral surface area of cuboid

= [2(l + b) ×h] square unit
= [2(24+0.25) × 6] m2
= [2×24.25×6]
= 291 m2.
Total surface area of cuboid
=2(lb + bh + hl) square units
=2(24×0.25 + 0.25×6 + 24×6) m2
=2(6+1.5+144) m2
= 2× 151.2
= 303 m2
2. Given,
A match box measure = 4cm × 2.5cm × 1.5cm
Volume of 1 match box = 4cm × 2.5cm × 1.5cm
= 15cm3
∵ volume of one matchbox = 15cm3
∴ volume of 12 matchbox = 15 × 12 cm3
= 180 cm3.

3. Given,

Length (l) =6m
Width(b)= 5m
Height(h)=4.5m
Volume of cuboid water tank = (l×b×h)
= (6×5×4.5) m3
= 135 m3
Given, 1m3 = 1000litres
So, 135m3 = 135 × 1000litres
= 135000 litre
Litre of water hold by tank = 135000 litre.

4. Given,
Capacity of a cuboid tank = 50000 litre
Length(l) = 10m
Depth(h)=2.5m
Width(b)=?
Volume of tank = length × depth × width
Capacity = 50000 litre
∵ 1000 litre = 1m3 (given)
1
∴ 1 litre = m3
1000
50000
∴ 50000 litre = m3 = 50m3
1000

50 = 10×b×2.5
50 = 25×b
50
b= = 2m
25

width of tank = 2m

Maximum no. of wooden crates =
𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑜𝑑𝑒𝑛 𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑠

40𝑚×25𝑚×15𝑚
=
1.5𝑚×1.25𝑚×0.5𝑚
15000 𝑚3
=
0.9375 𝑚3

Maximum no. of wooden crates = 16000.

6. Given,
Dimensions of plank = 5m × 25m × 10cm (5m × 0.25m × 0.1m)

Length of pit(l) = 20m

Width of pit(b) = 6m

Deep of pit(h) = 80cm = 0.8m

𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑝𝑖𝑡
Total no. of planks stored in pit =
𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑘

Volume of pit = l×b×h

= 20×6×0.8 = 96m3
Volume of plank = l×b×h

= 5×0.25×0.1 = 0.125m3

Total no. of plank stored in pit = 96m3/0.125m3

= 768.

7. Given,

Height of wall(h) = 6m = 600cm
Thick of wall(b) = 22.5cm
Volume of wall = l×b×h
= 800×600×22.5
= 10800000cm3
Dimension of each brick = 25cm×11.25cm×6cm
Volume of each brick = l×b×h
= 1687.5cm3

Let total required bricks to construct wall = x

𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑤𝑎𝑙𝑙
x=
𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑘
10800000
=
1687.5

x= 6400

8. Given,
Length of cistern = 8m(l)
Breadth of cistern = 6m(b)
Depth of cistern = 2.5m
Let , capacity of closed rectangular cistern = x
x = l×b×h
= 8×6×2.5
= 120m3
Area of the iron sheet require to make the cistern = surface area of cistern
surface area of cistern = 2(lb+bh+hl)
= 2(8×6+6×2.5+2.5×8)
= 2(48+15.0+20)
= 2 × 83
= 166 m2

area of wall=lateral surface area of wall
lateral surface area of wall = [2(l+b)×h]
let l= 9, b=8,h=6.5(given)

=2×17×6.5
Area of wall = 221m3
Let area of wall which will be white wishing = x
x = area of wall – [area of door + area of windows]
area of door = 2×1.5 = 3m2
area of windows = 1.5×1 = 1.5m2
but there are two windows then
= 1.5 × 2
= 3m2
x = 221 – (3+3) = 215m2
∵ per square meter cost = 25
∴ 216 square meter cost = 25 × 215

volume of brick = 2062.5cm3

2062.5
= m3
