1. MUST DO before you start
Before you start, make sure you have a printed version of this manual as you will not have immediate
access to your mail and the Lighting network.

This manual guides you through all steps needed to start working with Windows 10. All steps are
mandatory. Follow the steps carefully for a guaranteed successful workplace.

Please perform the upgrade to Windows 10 from a Philips Lighting office location. In the office, you
will have all the needed network connections available to usefully upgrade to Windows 10 for
Lighting.

1.1 Have you completed the preparation steps?

It is very important to check a few things before you start the upgrade to Windows 10. The necessary
preparation steps are all available on in the Windows 10 upgrade section on the IT Services &
Support community. Here you can find instructions to:

• Verify your @lighting.com account password


• Double check if you have the correct version of OneDrive
• Store your documents on OneDrive – Philips Lighting
o Have you thought of your email archives (.pst files)?
o Your OneNote notebooks and/or your Sticky Notes?
o Have created a backup of your web browser favorites?
o Exported the location of the network drive(s)?
o Etc.

If you have not completed the preparation steps, please visit the Windows 10 upgrade website at
http://www.lighting.com/upgrade (sign in with your @lighting.com account).

Click on the Take the preparation steps now! banner to start the preparation.

1.2 Checklist: Have you completed all steps below?

You have booked 2-3 hours time for preparation and 3 hours for the upgrade

2. Upgrade your computer to Windows 10

2.1 Before you start the upgrade

Warning: Before you start, please connect your computer to a power adapter and plug in the LAN
cable. Do not start the migration when you are connected through a VPN or Wi-Fi connection!

Once you have received the Windows 10 upgrade email, within 24 hours you will receive the upgrade
icon on your Windows desktop:

2.3 Starting the upgrade to Windows 10

You can start the migration process by clicking on the ‘Windows 10 upgrade’ icon from your desktop.

You will see several progress windows appearing on the screen. Please allow these to complete the
preparation of the computer.

2.4 Connect to the Power supply and Wired network (LAN)

A window will appear showing the status of the Power and network connection. If this is green you
can click on ‘Continue’ to proceed or ‘Cancel’ to stop the process. If items are red, please take
corrective measures.

2.4.1 If you are connected to VPN

If your device is connected via VPN, the following window will appear. Please click on Cancel,
disconnect from the VPN and restart Windows 10 upgrade when connected directly to the Philips
Network via a LAN cable. To restart, you can double click the Windows 10 Upgrade desktop again.

2.5 Tick the box and start the upgrade

A window will appear asking you to confirm several prerequisites necessary for a successful
migration. Please read and confirm by ticking the I confirm box in the left top corner.

Please read the summary carefully. Once you have completed all steps tick the I confirm option and
click Upgrade Now.

The upgrade starts as soon as you click on the Upgrade Now button.

If you forget to confirm and tick the box, the following pop up will appear:

The Windows 10 upgrade process will now start.

Please do not switch off your device or remove the power or network cable during the upgrade.

3. Windows 10 configuration
Make sure you always have the power cable plugged in your computer and into the mains power
supply when the upgrade is taking place.

Before you begin the upgrade of your computer to Windows 10, you will need to go through this
document step by step. Please take care to follow the sequence below, completing each step-in turn.
This process can take up to 3 hours, including re-installing your applications and configuring your
Cirrato printing functionality.

The migration to Windows 10 has started and your computer will restart several times. Until the first
restart, you can continue to work on your computer. When you see the message that your computer
is about to restart, at that stage of the upgrade you cannot use your computer anymore until
Windows 10 in fully installed.

3.1 Complete your regional settings

Please complete this


information (language,
keyboard and time zone) by
using the dropdown list.

These settings are user


specific:
• Your home
country/region?

Click Yes to continue.

• Your keyboard layout (for


the NL select: United
States – International)

Click Yes

3.2 Here’s the License Agreement

Please read and click


Accept.

3.3 Let’s get connected

If the computer is
connected to a wired
network connection, you’ll
skip this screen.

If the computer is
connected via Wi-Fi, select
for example, WLAN – PUB
(or if you are at home to
your home Wi-Fi network).

If you see the ‘Who’s going
to use this PC?’ screen as
shown on the left, please
stop and do not got further
with the installation of
Windows 10 and contact the
Philips Lighting IT Service
Desk. Please refer to
Appendix 1 for the contact

3.4 Checking for Updates

‘Just a moment’: wait a


moment until the latest
security updates are
installed.

It might be that your


computer restarts
automatically.

3.5 Sign in with Microsoft

Sign in with your


@lighting.com account and
click Next

Provide your password of


your @lighting.com
account and click ‘Next’

3.6 Choose privacy settings

Leave everything default


and click “Accept”

If you get the Philips


Lighting Terms screen, click
on Accept

computer to finish the set-
up and until the user
settings are made

4. Setting up your tools and applications

4.1 Check time settings

Please check the time displayed in the bottom right hand corner of your screen. If it is correct, then
please proceed straight to the next paragraph.

Click on Start in the left


corner of your screen and
then click on the Settings
cog wheel.

Click on Time and language

Switch off Set time
automatically and click on
Change and set the time
manually.

Set the time zone which is


applicable to your location.

Switch Set time


automatically back on
again.

4.2 Configure OneDrive – Philips Lighting

Click on Start

Type OneDrive and hit


Enter

Provide your
@lighting.com account and
click Sign in

Click Next

Note: do NOT modify your


OneDrive folder location.

Make sure that Sync all


files and folders in my
OneDrive is selected and
then click Next.

Note: Deselect those folder


and files which you don’t
need on a regular basis. The
folders and files you don’t
select, will remain available
online via
http://docs.lighting.com.

Your OneDrive is now ready


for you to save your
documents in. Please be
aware that it might take a
while before all your
documents are visible.

You can check your files


when clicking on Open my
OneDrive – Philips Lighting
folder

A new browser window
opens and provides a short
tutorial of OneDrive.
You can close this window,
or leave it open so you can
check the tutorial at a later
stage.

or Attention: as long as you


see this the two arrows
turning around, it means
that your files are still
syncing and that they might
not be all available for you
yet.

Please be patient.
Depending on the number
and size of the files you
have, this might take a
while.

When you see the green


tick in front of your
OneDrive – Philips Lighting
it means that the syncing of
your files has been finalized
and your files are ready for
use.

4.3 Activate Office 365

Click on Start.
Type Word 2016 and hit
Enter.

If it’s not available yet,


please wait till it’s visible.
This might take up to 30-90
minutes.

Activate Office using your


@lighting.com account and
click Next.

When you see the ‘Account


Updated’ screen, click OK.

On the 'First things first'
screen, click Accept.

Please select Office Open


XML formats and click OK.

Office is now activated and


you can close Word.

4.4 Restart your computer

Click on the Start, press on


the power button and
select Restart.

After the restart of your


computer, please login to
Windows using your
@lighting account
password.

4.5 Configure Outlook and Skype for Business

4.5.1 Configure Outlook

Click Start.
Type Outlook 2016 and hit
Enter.

Provide your @lighting.com


email address and click
Connect.

Things are getting ready for you.

Untick the 'Setup Outlook


Mobile on my phone, too'.

Click the OK button to complete


the configuration of Outlook.

Outlook will start automatically


and will prepare your mailbox
for first use.

In the meantime, you will also
see another window popping
up: ‘Outlook is setting up a local
copy of your mailbox’. This
means your emails and
appointments are being
downloaded from the server.
As Microsoft releases, new
features in Office on a regular
basis you will see the ‘What’s
New in Outlook’ message
occasionally.

Do note: the message in the


screenshot below, can contain
different feature
announcements.

Click Close.

If you check your Outlook –


inbox you will see an empty
inbox at first:
Don’t worry, it takes some time
to have your mail downloaded.
Depending on the number of
mails and the size, it might take
quite some time. Thanks for
being patient.

For easy access to Outlook, right


click on the Outlook icon on the
taskbar.

Click on Pin to taskbar to attach


Outlook to your taskbar.

Now the Outlook icon will also


be visible to you even when
Outlook is not open.

4.5.2 Configure Skype for Business

Click Start.
Type Skype and select
Skype for Business 2016
from the list.

Please do NOT click on


Skype Preview.

Please enter your


@lighting.com account and
click Sign In.

Note: If you see the ‘7


Quick tips’ screen, you can
either read them and then
close and proceed, or you
can simply close them and
move on.

Please enter your password
of your @lighting.com
account and click Sign In.

Please save your Skype for


Business sign-in info by
clicking Yes.

4.6 Unplug the network cable and connect to the Wi-Fi network

For Desktop computers:


In case you are installing Windows 10 on a desktop computer, you can skip this
chapter and continue with chapter 5.

For Laptop computers:


When installing Windows 10 on a laptop computer, please unplug the network cable
from your laptop. This will make sure you can connect to the Wi-Fi network as
described in the next paragraph.

If the new LIGHTING Wi-Fi network is available on your location, please proceed with paragraph 4.6.1
Connecting to the Lighting Wi-Fi network (LIGHTING).

If not, please continue with paragraph 4.6.2 Connecting to the Philips Wi-Fi network (WLAN-PHI).

4.6.1 Connecting to the Lighting Wi-Fi network (LIGHTING)

Click on the wireless icon


from the bottom right
corner of your screen.
Select LIGHTING
Tick the Connect
automatically box and click
Connect.

Tick the box Use my


Windows user account and
click OK.

Click Connect.

Now you are connected to


the LIGHTING Wi-Fi
network.

4.6.2 Connecting to the Philips Wi-Fi network (WLAN-PHI)

Click on the wireless icon


from the bottom right
corner of your screen.
Select WLAN-PHI
Tick the Connect
automatically box and click
Connect.

Please click Connect using a


certificate and select the
following certificate:
lightingconnections
@philips.com and click OK.

Click Connect.

Now you are connected to


the Philips Wi-Fi network.

5. Finalizing the configuration of Windows 10
