Xenophobia, or the fear and hatred of strangers, has been increasing in Western countries due to large numbers of people migrating for better opportunities. Both governments and individuals need to work together to address this issue. Governments should make hate speech illegal and increase awareness programs, while individuals should become more culturally competent, respect other cultures, and use social media to spread awareness of the harms of xenophobia. By taking a systematic approach and promoting policies of equality and respect for foreigners, xenophobia can be overcome.

PTE Academic Writing Sample Essay – Rise Of

Xenophobia In Western Countries (380 words)

Xenophobia has accelerated rapidly in the western countries.

According to you what solutions can be proposed by government
and individuals?

In today’s era, people are migrating in large numbers to western countries for better career
prospects and life. And it has accelerated Xenophobia in the people of those
countries. Xenophobia refers to fear and hatred of strangers. So, there is strong need to find
its solution to safeguard the interest of foreign nationals. In my opinion, both government
and individuals should work together to curb Xenophobia. In this article, I will be analyzing
the problem and then will present its possible solutions.

People of the different culture can appear threatening to others. Their different wear and
language often get another person suspicious resulting in discriminatory attitudes, violence,
abuses of all types etc. For example: In 1994 and 1995, gangs of armed youth destroyed the
homes of foreign nationals living in Johannesburg.

With the systematic approach of steps and measures, Xenophobia can be overcome. The
foremost step is to form an authorized body to look into the matter. Firstly, the hate
speeches, articles, and conduct should be made a punishable offense and hard rules should
be made to send clear message that Xenophobia is unacceptable. Secondly, the awareness
programs should also be accelerated to educate people not to discriminate or insult anyone
based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability, or other traits. The
concerned officials should address the people directly which will prevent outbursts of
Xenophobia in future.

Individuals also play an important role to avoid this. We should become culturally competent
and diverse. We should understand that cultural groups are not homogeneous in beliefs and
practices. We must respect other’s culture and beliefs. Social networking sites can be of great
importance in this regard as they can help us in spreading awareness about the harmful
effects of Xenophobia. Xenophobic incidents should be brought in front of people and
marches & rallies can be organized against it.

To conclude, government and individuals should work jointly to deal with issues of
Xenophobia and eradicate it completely. Other possible steps can be the policy of equality
at the workplace. Promote respect for foreigners and refugees in schools, government
institutions, hospitals, companies and at public places. The intercultural programs can also be
organized to discover new cultures and meet people of the different country to better
understand their values and beliefs.
24. PTE Academic Writing Sample Essay – Job Reservation for Women

(379 words) Most high-level jobs are done by men. Should governments encourage that
a certain percentage of these jobs be reserved for women? What is your opinion?

Generally, most of the high-level jobs are done by men. Some think that government must
provide reservation in jobs for women to encourage but I am not in support of this
argument. The most deserving candidate whether a male or a female should get the
opportunity for high profile jobs. There should be no discrimination as both the genders are
equal before the law. I will further elaborate my view in the following paragraphs.

In the older civilization, men have always dominated society and kept high level jobs to
himself. Education and right to vote were restricted to men only. There were many social and
political barriers to women. But now the things have changed. In this modern era, everyone
enjoys right to education and regardless of one’s sex equal opportunity is provided to
pursue their favorite career option or stream. This is 21st century and women are no less
than men. Earlier most of the high-level positions are held by men but slowly and steadily
women too are finding their feet on that front.

Women are not only competing with men in every sphere but also proving themselves
superior. Military high rank positions are held by men only and there exists a belief that
women cannot meet the physical and mental demands of the position. From past decade
women have begun to be given a more prominent role in contemporary armed forces and
their participation is only increasing.

If government will provide any kind of reservation to restrict certain percentage of jobs for
women then it will be unfair not only for man but for women too who have earned high level
posts based on their qualification. In the state of Bangladesh, most of the high-level political
positions are held by women. They are not elected for being a woman but based on their
ability and qualification. Also, woman like Indira Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Hilary Clinton have
set the perfect example for everyone that women are no less than a man.

To conclude, government should not reserve jobs for women. Women have already been
given much reservation and assistance from government. Now they should compete based
on their skills and talent Only knowledge should be treated superior and be given the
priority to hold high level job.
1. Essay – “Actions Speak Louder Than Words”. Agree Or
Disagree

(349 words)“Actions speak louder than words.” Do you agree or

disagree with the statement?

People either communicate through words or actions. Words are uttered by the
tongue. The action is what puts the meaning into the words said. The only reason
behind the famous phrase that “action speaks louder than words” is the fact that
taking action brings the destination closer. I completely agree with the statement
“Actions speak louder than words.”

Firstly, actions carry more meaning and importance than conveying a message. In
any environment, be it work, household chores or national politics, there are always
people who only talk about taking actions and the ones who get the work done.
Though it is essential to convey the message of the action to be performed to all the
stakeholders, it is imperative that the task is worked upon since the spoken word is a
double-edged sword where the authenticity of the spoken word can be questioned
later by work performed.

Secondly, action taken by the higher management motivates other employees at the
office. If you have ever worked at a job where there is a lazy boss, then you can relate
to this. The employees always look up to the upper management or the boss for
motivation. When they find their boss doing nothing & unmotivated then employees
replicate the same traits. But when the boss gets their hands dirty and shows the
passion, they have for making things better, employees are more motivated to work
and feel more passionate about what they are doing.

Thirdly, actions depict a person’s character and personality. What someone does and
how he behaves in that particular situation reveals his real side. For example, if a
town next to you experienced a flood, a real hero would do what he can do within his
means to help the people instead of only feeling bad for them.

In conclusion, actions carry more significance than what a person says. A person
must hence, think twice before saying anything because words can be easily
expressed but doing it, in reality, takes real effort and dedication. Timely
performance of the required action is very important because action completes a
task.

termed as the best of all inventions. It has changed the face of the modern era.

3. Pros and cons of extreme/adventure sports

(320 words)

Adventure sports or extreme sports have gained wide popularity over some years
and the main credit for this goes to the movies which show the most dangerous
stunts with utmost ease. This makes me want to try these stunts and to feel the
adrenaline rush for once. But on a second thought, these stunts are not as easy as
they seem and you actually risk your life by trying them both the pros and cons will
be highlighted in this essay.

On one side, trying these adventurous sports will help to boost the self-confidence
and master your own fears at once. It also aids in accelerating your physical stamina
to overcome the myriad of life challenges in every human’s life. Also, they give you a
prominent name and fame in the world to establish a foothold in the world.

Further, many people do not pursue this as their fears drag them down and they
become reluctant to try new things. It takes a little time but once you take a risk
there is no looking back. Not only that, by trying new things you can prevent the
grunt work and develop a risk-taking attitude and have positivity in your mind.

On the contrary side, these sports are not that safe as they seem. There have been
numerous incidents where human life had been at extreme risk and people have lost
their lives. It is a huge risk in the name of adventure. There is no guarantee of safety
and taking safety precautions is a must.

In conclusion, the extreme sports are dangerous for life. having proper preventive
measures is necessary as the risk is very high. That is why it is advised to practice a
lot before attempting these adventurous sports to avoid any type of injury or mishap.
People are playing to change their life routine and make fresh mind. The extreme
sports require special training but still involves potential threat to life.
4. Essay – Advantages & Disadvantages of Communication
Technology & Transportation

Recently the freedom to work and live anywhere has become the
main trend due to the development of communication technology
and transportation. Do the advantages of these developments
outweigh the disadvantages? Discuss.

Currently, people have the liberty to reside and work anywhere due to the recent
advancements in the modes of commuting and communication. This freedom has
allowed people to spend more time with their family as they can work from home.
However, excess use of transportation has led to increase in pollution. I will discuss
merits and demerits of progressions in communication and traveling mediums.

There are some reasons why development in telecommunication and transportation

is advantageous. First of all, people now require just a laptop and internet connection
to work from home. Using the internet, they can converse with their colleagues and
bosses and finish their work by sitting at their home. Resultantly, they can spend
more time with their family members. Next, easy availability of public transportation
has made it possible for people to travel to the remote area. They can also commute
to and from work quickly and be back home by the end of the day.

On the other hand, such progressions have many disadvantages. Firstly, people have
become lazy. They rely on vehicles, even to travel to nearby places. Due to this, they
not only become inactive but invite many diseases as well. Secondly, by working from
home, people have no social life. They sit inside their house, do their work and spend
time with their family. Other than that, they do not have any social life, which affects
their personality in the longer run.

Furthermore, advancements in modes of transportation have elevated the level of

pollution globally. These days, families have a number of vehicles than the number of
family members, just to show off their status in the society. As a result, pollution has
increased manifolds.

In conclusion, I believe that there are more demerits than merits of progressions in
communication and transportation mediums. People should use these services in
limit and focus more on healthy living.
5. Imitating celebrities in sports and movies is good
or bad? (263 words)

Hero worship is in our blood and today youngsters are highly influenced by the
lifestyle of actors and sports personalities. Some celebrities are more famous for their
glamorous lifestyle and wealth than their achievements which sometimes sets a bad
example for young people. Now, it is a debatable issue that whether this imitation is
good or bad?

Many youngsters, who are not mature are following all habits and behaviour of their
beloved celebrities to stay in the eye of the stylish world. With the advancement of E-
Media, actors and sports personalities are presented through media in such a way
which fascinate our teenagers easily. Involvement of celebrities in smoking
advertisements, charged with drugs and other criminal activities can result in the
destruction of ethical values of a society. Youngsters don’t hesitate to commit any
crime for grabbing the same kind of lifestyle. In media news, many of us heard about
the involvement of teenagers in bad habits to fulfil their unnecessary needs.

By seeing thin wafer models, women apply unhealthy eating habits to maintain their
zero-size figure. This surely affects their health in future. It is very common in the film
industry for superstars to change their partner as a result extramarital affair are
considerably increasing day by day in general society.

Too much involvement in the character will lead to the problem for our youth and
these kinds of behaviours are the bad example for the society. It is good to entertain
people by sports and celebrities but to facsimile them it is not exactly the way people
should think about that.
6. Do you think consumers should avoid over
packaged products or is it the responsibility of
producers?

(300 words)

Today, over packaged products are flooding the markets. Since over packaging cost
the consumers as well as the environment, there is an urgent need to curtail its
usage. It is a producer’s responsibility to shun such packaging techniques. Producers
should work towards both cost savings and reduce environmental damage.

Over-packaging often shoots up product’s price significantly. Manufacturers try out

their best to attract customer with product new style and colourful packing because
customers have the number of options in the market. So, manufacturers assume that
this step will force costumers to think before buying any product. Therefore, less
packaging will automatically pull the rate downwards. For example, McDonald packs
their burgers in a paper wrap then put it in a cardboard container and then hand it to
customers in a paper bag. Instead, if they only put it in a box, it will reduce the price
of the burger. When looking at this example, it is evident that responsible steps by
producers to cut down on excess packaging expense is not only plausible but also
mutually beneficial.

Also, over packaging is a significant catalyst for environmental damage as it

augments co2 emission. So, it is producers’ responsibility to minimize harm to the
ecosystem. For instance, box packaging cost trees which not only costs buyers and
sellers but the whole planet. So, it is the best interest of everyone to make minimal
use packaging. Therefore, manufacturers should avoid over-packaging of goods.

This analysis establishes that cost saving and curtailing environmental damage is
mutually profitable. In a nutshell, it is producer’s responsibility to avoid excess
packaging by taking necessary steps. Producers must willingly make changes needed
for the betterment of the everyone. Prescribed rules and regulations of Government
must be followed by the producers. On the consumer’s note, product quality is
important than the attractive packing.
7. Effective way to deal with unemployment is to
introduce rapid urbanization
(300 words)
Unemployment is a fairly popular word these days. Many times, urbanisation is seen
as an answer to the widespread unemployment. Though, in this essay, I will argue
that urbanisation is not a solution to unemployment.

There are many reasons why people support urbanisation to combat unemployment.
Firstly, urbanisation opens up opportunities in every sector. New industries provide
employment choices to the people. Secondly, industrialisation is accompanied by
better housing, education, medical and transport facilities. Hence, quality of life
improves for many.

Despite the merits of urbanisation, there are many demerits we overlook. The
following reasons demonstrate the argument-Uneven population distribution –
Urbanisation leads to a change in demographics. The urban areas are more densely
populated than the rural areas. For example, even though Tokyo is the most
populated cities in the world, the population in the rest of Japan is dwindling. This
leads to a neglect of the villages which have been untouched by urbanisation.

Poor living conditions – A sudden demographic shift can be overwhelming. The

changes in the city are not properly mapped out. Hence, illegal housing increases.
This also puts a lot of pressure on resources, education, medical facilities etc. Rapid
crime growth and poor sanitation are also a consequence. For example, every
urbanized city in the world has a higher rate of crime, mental illnesses etc compared
to the other states of their respective countries.
Extreme competition – A large population increases the competition in the job
market. For one vacant post, there will be several qualified professionals applying for
it. Even urbanisation doesn’t guarantee that a person would get employment
according to his/her qualifications.

To sum up, urbanisation is a short-term solution to unemployment. Rather than

creating urbanised hubs, even development across the country should be the
realized. Imparting skills and education can help the poor make a better living.
8. Global Transportation PTE Essay

(310 words)As global trade increases between different countries,

many daily necessities are produced in other countries. Such
goods are usually transported a long distance. Do the benefits of
this trend outweigh its drawbacks?

Globally, we are one which is possible only due to globalization which has
revolutionized our world in many aspects. Earlier we belong to a big planet earth and
now it seems like a small world. We can easily trade with any country; everything is
easily available everywhere. The definition of each word or phrase is changing and
amendments are done due to recent innovations. Transportation of goods over a
long distance is a new concept in front of all. There are many advantages and
disadvantages of transporting goods over a long distance. In my opinion, the
advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

Transportation offers a lot of choices to choose according to our budget. Now we

can taste fruits and vegetables from all parts of the world. For instance, about ten
years ago, we hardly saw kiwi fruit which is from New Zealand, but now it has a place
on almost every fruit stand. Like kiwi fruit of New Zealand, there are many other
products in the world which we are unaware of. Transporting long-distance goods
solves this problem and made them possible to reach every product in any part of
the world.

People gets employed in this field which also helps in increasing the overall economy
of the country. Small business entrepreneurs have the chance to expand globally.
This also helps in developing good relations between two different countries which
results in international cooperation and peace.

On the other side, importing goods have a negative effect on local culture.
Sometimes people gave preference to the imported product and start eliminating
the local product. For instance, people of Japan prefers to take imported food and
replaced it with their own traditional food. Secondly, the major disadvantage of
importing goods is pollution. Exhaust fumes increase pollution because of road, sea
and air transport.

In conclusion, importing goods have both merits and demerits but the pros outweigh
the cons.
