Syllabus for class 6

Week 1

Day 1

 Introduction to class. Creating a friendly environment


 Briefing what History/Tareekh actually is
 Importance of the subject for students and everyone (Try asking the students initially)

Day 2

 Explaining how has the history travelled through ages to the present
 How has History been compiled over the years- in earlier centuries (scribes etc.), middle
ages (development of books) and recent years (internet, books)
 Explaining what type of history is actually someone concerned with (Religious, political,
personal etc.)
 Asking the students to bring in a piece of history/ a short true story/ any partition detail/ any
religious event for the next day

Day 3

 Listening the pieces of history from everyone


 Telling every student how important each of their stories are and what lessons do we learn
from them

Day 4

 Narrating a piece of history/ story (related to the theme of empathy, considering that it is
the theme of the internship as well)
 Analysing the story and briefing its importance (constantly relating to empathy)

Day 5

 Introducing the topic of early civilizations (Do give examples and the locations of the
civilizations, but do not go into detail of any of these)
 Describe the reasons for their existence in the specific locations (fertile land, near rivers etc.)
 Ask the students to give their opinion on the previous bullet point

Week 2

Day 6

 Introduce Indus Valley Civilization


 2600 – 1900 BC (Only tell the students this time period if they’re aware with BC / AD )
 Introduce and point out the locations of Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro
 Describe the location and the perks of settling near river Indus
 Ask students what do they know about this civilization

Day 7

 Go into the depth of types of Buildings found at that time


 Their ways of making their homes
 How did the water reach the houses?
 Drainage system

Day 8

 Start discussing the lifestyle of people


 Differentiate between lifestyle of common people and nobles
 Differentiate between Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro
 Discuss the types of jewellery, crafts and money found at that time

Day 9

 Distribute blank pages to each student


 Ask them to draw either clothes of people of that time, jewellery, ornaments, buildings or a
random sketch depicting the civilization

Day 10
 Decline of Indus Valley Civilization
 Arrival of Aryans
 Give a brief intro of Aryans, and where did they come from

Week 3

Day 11

 Describe the lifestyle of Aryans (nomads)


 Why did they come to India and how did they live in India?

Day 12

 Give an overview of 4 Vedas containing the beliefs of the Aryans


 How have their beliefs transferred to present day Indians??
 Ask students what do they know about Aryans

Day 13

 Discuss the chiefs and common people of Aryan Civilization


 Describe their ways of wars and their accomplishments
 Do point out their decline as well

Day 14

 Short quiz testing the students’ knowledge

Day 15

 Farewell
 Share some good memories
 Have a light discussion
 Maybe play a game or two
 Khuda Hafiz!
