Courier Service Automation System

This document describes a proposed courier service automation system. The current manual system for tracking courier status is inefficient and error-prone. The proposed system would automate the entire courier process from request to delivery to tracking using an Android application. It would allow users to request courier pickups and track shipments, and delivery agents to update shipment statuses and payments. The system uses a MySQL database and is developed in Java on the Android Studio platform. It is intended to improve customer service and increase revenue for courier companies.

Courier Service Automation System

COURIER SERVICE AUTOMATION SYSTEM

ABSTRACT
The actual problem is to maintain different database for a courier company
whose main purpose is to provide parcel services for their customers for different
places, and maintain details of all the transactions, employees and address details.
In the manual system it is difficult to maintain data and generating different reports
according to requesting transaction. In the present courier system always they have
to take source as well as destination information which contains address details,
parcel contents details and payment details. By keeping all the above activities we
are developing a system named as “Courier Service Automation System”. In this
automation system we are maintaining company as well as customer details related
to courier service, employee details and payment details.

EXISTING SYSTEM:
The Existing System is only to track the courier status. In the case of sending
courier is done manually. User has to visit and do the manual process of filling the
applications. A system that existing currently may lead to confuse the handling of
bulk amount of data due to inefficient manual process. In such scenarios records
may be missing and leads to make huge collapse in sending the details. The
Tracking System is also inefficient.

DISADVANTAGE:
 Manual Operations
 Time taken to process is high
 Missing of records
PROPOSED SYSTEM:
The Proposed system is getting rid of problems in current existing system
which may reduce the revenue and the firm may get down. It can be overcome by
the help of automation of the whole process that is receiving, delivering and
tracking. It gives the lot advantages over Existing System

MODULES
There are four different modules in this project named “Courier Service
Automation System”. They are listed below in sequence

 Request For Courier Service


 Allocate Service
 Updation of Courier Status
 Tracking the Courier
MODULE DESCRIPTION:
1. Request For Courier Service
o In this module, User is making a request to admin that they
need to send the courier with the details.
o Users also add the details of courier like sender name, sender
address, material weight, material type and their own details.
o Then admin can view the request from user and then view
their details.
2. Allocate Service
o Admin is viewing the details and they can allocate the
delivery persons to the particular address to receive
o Once they received the courier from the user then they can
allocate the delivery person to deliver the item to particular
address
o User payment details are also updated to admin by delivery
person who is receiving the courier from user who made
request
3. Updation of Courier Status
o In this module, Service Person that is Delivery Person is
about to update the status of their own
o Service Person alone responsible for Updation of courier
status to admin as well as user
o Once they receive the courier from user they also made a
Updation about payment
4. Tracking the Courier
o This is user side module. User can Track their courier by id
which is allocated to the transportation that also intimated
them previously
o There is another way of tracking also available to view the
Updation about their courier service
o By Viewing in list as per they made request

SYSTEM SPECIFICATION:

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:

 System : Pentium IV 2.4 GHz.

 Hard Disk : 40 GB.


 Floppy Drive : 1.44 Mb.

 Monitor : 14’ Colour Monitor.

 Mouse : Optical Mouse.

 Ram : 512 Mb.

SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

 Operating system : Windows 7 Ultimate.

 Coding Language : Java.

 Front-End : Android Studio.

 Data Base : MySQL.

CONCLUSION
The Android Application titled “Courier Service Automation System” is
helpful for Courier Industry in order to improve their revenue and customer service
as well as customer satisfaction. The Automation in courier industry leads to make
huge impact on the comfort to users. User can make request for the service of
receiving and to delivering the courier. The user can use the mobile application to
get the service and tracking details of courier. In this app delivery person also
allowed to login and get the details about user and courier details. Delivery Person
is updating the courier status, thus it sends to user and admin as well. Delivery
Person also needs to update the payment details to admin and user by using the
application. It is very simple process and made it user friendly. In future can able
to have many services to be included in this application.
