SLA – Subledger Accounting
■ Rules-based accounting engine for generation of
journal entries from Oracle subledgers and optionally
from 3rd party applications
■ No extra license fees required when used with Oracle
subledgers
■ Table acronym is XLA
■ Supports user-defined accounting rules
■ Provides centralized repository for all accounting
(except GL) and drilldown to subledgers
■ GL_INTERFACE still supported for external JE
integration
■ Is not invoked for JEs in GL

SLA – Subledger Accounting
■ Accounts all transactions from subledgers
■ Can be configured to change accounting shown on
subledger transaction (seeded Oracle SLAMs do not do
this)
■ Does not eliminate need to setup AR AutoAccounting or
Projects/PO Account Generators
■ AP/PO/AR transactions cannot be completed/validated
without accounting distributions
■ Can configure Account Generators to generate “dummy”
combination and then use SLA to generate “real”
accounting
▸ Approvals will not be able to be based on “real” accounting

Accounting Methods Builder (AMB)
■ Permits definition of user-defined accounting rules
■ Rules are defined via forms and guaranteed not to be
overwritten or deleted by patching or upgrades
■ Significantly reduces need for SQL to affect changes in
seeded accounting
■ Custom Sources will still require SQL
■ No workflow knowledge is required, unlike customizing
Account Generators
■ Workflow Builder is not utilized

Accounting Using SLA

The Issue
■ An Asset is inadvertently assigned to a category with a
Property Class of 1245, it should have been assigned to a
one with a Property Class of 1250 (or vice versa)
■ Several Periods have passed since the assignment was
made
■ Management wishes to reclass the asset and track
separately the cost and accumulated depreciation that was
inadvertently charged to the wrong class
■ Sub-Account 0001 will be used to track transferred in
■ Sub-Account 0002 will be used to track transferred out
■ Management wishes to post JE’s associated with this
reclass in detail with the asset number in the JE line
description
■ Management no longer wishes to use the Assets Account
Generator – at this point, the account generator has not
been customized

18 Gold
Partner
Copyright © 2014 Infosemantics, Inc. All Rights Reserved . Any other commercial product names herein are trademark, registered trademarks or service marks of their respective owners.
The Solution
■ Use SLA and set the sub-account value based on whether
the old category property class is different from the new
category property class (if the property class doesn’t
changed, leave sub-account = 0000)
■ Change Posting from summary to detail for these lines and
change JE description to include asset number
■ Issue with this solution
■ SLA engine deals with one side of an entry at any given time,
to effect this change, SLA must know the property class of both
sides of the entry
■ Issue Resolution
■ Create a custom source to store property class of old category
■ Create a custom source to store property class of new
category
■ Create Accounting Derivation Rule using the new sources

How to Know When Custom Source Required
■ Either Source doesn’t exist, or Oracle definition doesn’t
meet your need
