3rd Quarter DLP 2

This document provides a lesson plan for an 8th grade science class on the properties of solids, liquids, and gases based on the particle nature of matter. Students will perform an activity from their textbook to identify examples of matter and justify their answers. They will then analyze why the volume of a sugar-water mixture is less than the sum of its parts, due to water and sugar molecules filling spaces between each other. An oral recitation and assessment will follow to check student understanding.

Introductory Activity What is matter?

Divide the whole class into 5 groups let students perform activity What is matter made of? on pages 174-
175 in the Learner's Manual. Let the students answer the activity by identifying which is matter which is not
and justify their answers. Each group will present the output of the activity through reporting. Criteria for the
Activity presentation of the activity 10 pts - maximum participation of the members of the group -all the answers of
the activity are correct- publish the result on time 8 pts- one or two members of the group did not
participate -one answer is mistake - publish the result 5 minutes late 5 pts.-three or more members in the
group did not participate - two answers in the activity are wrong - publish the result 8 minutes late

Analysis What happens to the taste of the water when you mixed it with sugar? Why is this so? Why does the
volume of the mixture is less than the sum of the unmixed sugar and water?

when you mixed sugar and water and tasted the resulting solution, it tasted sweet because sugar is still
present, though you cannot see the sugar anymore. The volume of the mixture is less than the sum of the
Abstraction volumes of the unmixed sugar and water. Why is this so? The water is made of tiny particles, molecules,
with spaces between them. Sugar is also made up of molecules bigger than the molecules of water. The
water molecules could fit in the spaces between the sugar molecules or vise versa.

Application A beautiful sexy lady pass by and smell her angelic perfume, why is this so? What does it prove?

Oral Recitation based on the activity performed.
