1. What is the film all about?

The film “Austronesian Migrations (Crossroads-Civilizations)” narrates the journey of the


forefathers of Southeast Asians 5000 years back. These migrations are considered to be one of
the greatest in the world since the spread of Austronesian-speaking peoples throughout South
East Asia resulted to the development of 1,200 variations of the Austronesian language spoken
by 350 million people today. It was said in the film that these people travled from country to
country by canoes until they reached the northernmost edge of the Philippines-Batanes. The
film also talked about the unique architecture, beliefs, and crafts of these people before the
Spanish colonization. Another one of the highlights in this film was when the Author, Peter S.
Bellwood, stated that the Philippines played an important role in spreading the Austronesian
culture and language.

The person behind this informative medium is Peter Stafford Bellwood. He is an educator of
Archaeology and Anthropology and a known Prehistorian as well. His work focuses on the
prehistory of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Bellwood is also the Secretary-General of the Indo-
Pacific Prehistory Association and a member of many notable editorial boards. He is working on
archaeological fieldwork projects in the Philippines and Vietnam at present.
