    1. What is the film all about?

    The film “Austronesian Migrations (Crossroads-Civilizations)” narrates the journey of the


    forefathers of Southeast Asians 5000 years back. These migrations are considered to be one of
    the greatest in the world since the spread of Austronesian-speaking peoples throughout South
    East Asia resulted to the development of 1,200 variations of the Austronesian language spoken
    by 350 million people today. It was said in the film that these people travled from country to
    country by canoes until they reached the northernmost edge of the Philippines-Batanes. The
    film also talked about the unique architecture, beliefs, and crafts of these people before the
    Spanish colonization. Another one of the highlights in this film was when the Author, Peter S.
    Bellwood, stated that the Philippines played an important role in spreading the Austronesian
    culture and language.

    2. Identify the author and his personal profile


    The person behind this informative medium is Peter Stafford Bellwood. He is an educator of
    Archaeology and Anthropology and a known Prehistorian as well. His work focuses on the
    prehistory of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Bellwood is also the Secretary-General of the Indo-
    Pacific Prehistory Association and a member of many notable editorial boards. He is working on
    archaeological fieldwork projects in the Philippines and Vietnam at present.

    3. Is the data/ information reliable


    The information presented on this film is credible and authentic since the process of acquiring
    these data involved a thorough investigation of linguistic, archaeological, and genetic evidences
    gathered by scientists coming from prominent educational institutions. The main author, Peter
    S. Bellwood, is also an archaeologist of great reputation. He also published a large number of
    books that focuses on Archaeology and Anthropology such as “First Migrants: Ancient Migration
    in Global Perspective” which received critical acclaims from other notable people in the field of
    Archaeology and Anthropology as well.

    4. Explain its relevance to the Filipinos of today


    Through this learning material, the Filipinos of today may be able to trace their ancestral roots
    and learn why they possess certain physical characteristics and cultures. In the same manner, it
    may also help in making the modern-day Filipinos know and understand how the first Filipinos
    lived their lives way before they were colonized by the Spaniards and how they might still be
    living if the Spaniards, Americans and the Japanese never set foot on this nation.
