WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION

SYNTHESIS PAPER

“Communication is the imparting or interchange of thoughts, opinions, or

information by speech, writing, or signs”-American College Dictionary. The
word communication has many ramifications. It is basically a process of
interaction with the people and their environment. Through such interactions,
two or more individuals influence the ideas, beliefs, and attitudes of each
other. Such interactions take place through the exchange of information
through words, gestures, signs, symbols, and expressions. In organizations,
communication is a continuous process of giving and receiving information
and to build social relationships. Purposive communication as one of our
subject is useful in my chosen field and also in communicating with others in
everyday living. What I have learned in this subject?

Purposive communication is the five skills that are studied and simulated
in advanced academic settings. Examples are listening, speaking, viewing,
writing and reading. For me Purposive Communication is used for the
students to improve in all skills of communication. First I have learned about
Verbal Communication. refers to an interaction in which words are used to
relay a message. A type of oral communication wherein the message is
transmitted through the spoken words. Verbal Communication is further
divided into two. Oral Communication, spoken words are used. Written
communication, written signs or symbols are used to communicate.
Non-Verbal Communication refers to an interaction where behavior is used
to convey and represent meanings. All kinds of human responses that are not
expressed in words are classified as nonverbal communication. In other
words, any communication made between two or more persons through the
use of facial expressions, hand movements, body language, postures, and
gestures. formal communication, certain rules, conventions and principles are
followed while communicating message. Formal communication occurs in
formal and official style. Usually professional settings, corporate meetings,
conferences undergoes in formal pattern. Informal communication just a
casual talk. It is established for societal affiliations of members in an
organization and face-to-face discussions. It happens among friends and
family.
There are many skills to improve in communication, and honestly most of
the types of communication we already practice in plain interaction with each
other. It would help us to communicate well and it would help develop the
communicative competence that would make us communicate effectively. It
is not just helpful to our course, rather it is important for everybody else' as
well since all of us need to communicate in order to understand and to be
understood.
REFLECTION PAPER

In the beginning of this subject, I was very weak and nervous in doing
presentations in front of a crowd. We got lots of opportunities to write and
speak in front of a crowd. Moreover, the presentation skills and knowledge
taught in the class are useful and equip myself to deliver a presentation more
confidently. In terms of pronunciation and delivery, in the last presentation of
another course, I tried to speak clearly, louder with the use of intonation.

This subject are very beneficial to me and all the entire student to
understand how to improve our verbal and nonverbal skill and what verbal is
and nonverbal is. As normally, my lecturer still taught me and my classmates
to worked in group and gave us opportunity to discussed the lessons in order
to improve our thinking, relationship, and sharing our knowledge to each
other. Moreover, after we’re worked in group my lecturer also explaining us
and providing some handouts which are relate to the lessons.“Purposive
Communication” is very important to all the people around the world to
understanding of communication, though, by being sensitive to context that
includes the physical setting the occasion, and the situation and makes a
difference in your communication, so you have to adapt. And feedback also,
can be very important in helping others interpret your communication cues
that might otherwise distract your listeners. I have learned about the types of
communication. The verbal, non-verbal, formal and informal communication.
Because of this subject I have develop more confidence in communicating to
other people.

Therefor I conclude that Purposive Communication is very helpful to student

like me who need to learn more about communication and it is very important
for us to learn communication because we are future entrepreneurs who deals
more with people.
