CASE STUDY 3: SELECTION OF EMPLOYEES

I. IENTIFYING INFORMATION
- Selection of employee for Production manager
II. PROBLEM PRESENTED
The main problem is that developing a Job description for the position of Production
Manager of such company.
A.) Among the applicant represented, who would be the first choice for the Job and Why?
B.) Who would be your last choice and why?
C.) Explain the factors that the president must take into considerations before the final
employment decision.
OBJECTIVES: To hire employee who are qualified for the position of Production Manager in the
company.
III. HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM
For more than two weeks, Grace has spent her time looking over resumes, conducting
interviews, reference checking, and giving tests to the qualified applicants for the position of
Production Manager. She found out that out of 25 applicants there are only three most qualified
applicants to the said position.

IV. BACKGROUND INFORMATION


Grace presented to the Company President the names of the three qualified applicants
with their folders who passed the exam and meets the standards required for the position of
Production Manager.
Here are the names of the three qualified applicants for Production Manager:
1.) JAIME CRUZ, An Ilocano, native of San Mateo Isabela, he own a business after finishing
college at Isabela State University, and then worked for one of the their competitor for 5 years.
2.) CHESTER SANTOS, Holds a BSBA degree from Ateneo, He worked as business partner of
his father since he was a kid and want to move on.
3.) NOEL, a disabled victim of the Abu Sayyaf, he lost his arm when he was held as a hostage
of the ASG, HE HAS A MASTER’S DEGREE AND DOCTORATE DEGREES IN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS,
HE HAS SERVED AS THE PRODUCTION MANAGER OF A MANUFACTURING COMPANY FOR 10
YEARS before the accident.

V. ASSESSMENT /RECOMMENDATION
Based on the three represented applicants, my first choice is applicant no. 3, because
even though he was disabled, he meets the qualified standards for the position of Production
Manager.
My last choice is applicant no. 2, because he is not an asset but liability of the company
based on his experienced indicated on his resume.
The factors that the president must take into considerations before making the final
employment decision is that, he must see to it that he is looking for the most qualified and
assets of the company itself not a liability.

In this situation, Job Analysis applied. The Company or the president do


the Job Analysis again when dissatisfied with the results of the Job Description
Evaluation or when there is a need to update the Qualification standard.
