ALCALA

- Born on March 1, 1929


- He is a Filipino biologist who was named a National Scientist of the
Philippines in 2014. Alcala is known for his fieldwork to build
sanctuaries and to promote biodiversity in the aquatic ecosystems of
the Philippines.

2. BENJAMIN T. CABRERA
- Born on March 18, 1920
- He is a Filipino physician who has done research on medical
parasitology and public health.
- He focused on how parasites are spread and how the diseases they
cause can be prevented or treated.

3. PEDRO B. ESCURO
- (August 2, 1923 – September 8, 2000)
- He was a Filipino scientist who became renowned for his work in
the area of rice conservation and production. His biggest
achievement is the work he carried out in order to segregate and
release nine seed board rice varieties.

4. EDGARDO GOMEZ
- Born on November 7, 1938
- He is a Filipino biologist who was conferred the rank of National
Scientist of the Philippines in 2014. He is a professor emeritus
for marine biology at the University of the Philippines Marine
Science Institute.

5. BIENVENIDO OCHOA JULIANO


- Born on August 15, 1936 in Los Baños, Laguna
- An American Cereal chemist
- He known for his contributions to the chemistry and technology of

6. MILAGROSA R. MARTINEZ
- She is a Professor Emeritus at the Institute of Biological
Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, UPLB.
- Martinez is a pioneer in the field of micro-algaeculture and she
researched in the field of phycology and studied nostoc commune
and chlorella.

7. EVELYN MAE T. MENDOZA


- Born on August 7, 1947
- She recognized for her sustained basic researches in plant
biochemistry and she also studied the resistance of certain
plants to pests or diseases.
8. BALDOMERO OLVERIA, JR.
- He was recognized for his significant studies and accomplishments
in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology, specifically
the discoveries of numerous Conus peptides which are now in
various phases of clinical trials as highly specific drugs for
pain, epilepsy, and other disorders of the nervous system.

9. EDUARDO QUISUMBING

scientific articles, many on orchids. Quisumbing served as the
director of the National Museum of the Philippines.

10. ASUNCION RAYMUNDO


- Born on August 15 1946
- Expertise: Microbial Genetics, Antibiotics, Bacterial Taxonomy,
Industrial Microbiology , Biotechnology, Microbiology
- She recognized a Professor and currently Dean of the College of Arts
and Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

11. REYNALDO A. TABADA


- He has made contributions in air pollution and water resources.
- This was namely assessing the environmental impact of pollutants
from thermal power plants that use coal, the effects of heavy
metal emissions and hydrogen sulfide from geothermal plants on
vegetation and assessing the nitrogen and phosphorus in Laguna
Lake.

12. CARMEN VELAZQUEZ


- She has studied parasites and their hosts in the fish
parasitology.
- She discovered 32 species and one genus of digenetic trematodes
on fish populations.

13. BENITO S. VERGARA


- (June 23, 1934 – October 24, 2015)
- He was a scientist in the Plant Sciences, and was conferred the
rank and title of National Scientist of the Philippines in 2001,
the highest honor bestowed by the Philippine Government for the
work of Filipino scientists.

14. PRESCILLANO M. ZAMORA


- (January 4, 1933 – August 3, 2010)
- He was a Filipino biologist who is notable for his work on plant
anatomy-morphology and pteridophyte biology. He is also well
known for his studies on vascular plants due to which his
followers added additional species to some plant's genus'.
