INTRODUCTION

RATIONALE

The Computer System Servicing is one of the many

specializations offered in Abellana National School. It is designed to
develop knowledge, skills and attitude of a computer technician and it
covers basic competencies in installing, configuring and diagnosing
computer systems and network. This is a major subject which has a big
impact of the overall average of the student that is why passing this
subject is compulsory in proceeding to another school year or level.

Passing the Computer System Servicing subject requires focus,

self-discipline and self-interest. This statement supports the study of
Gong Yue, Douan, Beck, Joseph and Hefferman, Niel T. (2009) that
talks about the impact of self-discipline on students’ knowledge and
learning. They found out that self-discipline has higher intelligence
than those without. Focus should be practiced, according to Schwartz,
Katrina (December 5,2013), Digital Classroom tools like computer,
tablets and smartphone offer exciting opportunity that can also be
distracting. This leads to lack of concentration and hard time shutting
out distractions. Self-interest is also a vital part in passing the subject.
According to the study of Thomas, Vicky I. (2013), exploring student’s
perception or interest, students identify internal and external influences
of their study. However, it was also revealed that some of their own
characteristics could have contribute as well as their performance goals
on orientation to their schoolwork. Interest is generally viewed as
being two types: personal and situational.

However, researchers only focused on finding out the reason

behind the problems and has not provided a single solution to the
2

problem. That’s why this study aims to provide an action plan for the
Computer System Servicing students that will serve as a guide for
them to efficiently pass the subject. The action plan will be triggering
motivation and focus towards the subject. It will also aim to improve
and develop the student’s behavior towards the subject.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aims to provide action plan for Grade 12 students to

pass the Computer System Servicing subject. Specifically, the
researchers sought to answer the following questions:

1. What is the Grade 12 students’ difficulties in passing the

Computer System Servicing subject?
2. How can the students pass the subject?
3. How can the action plan help this Grade 12 students to pass the
subject?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study is significant to the following:

The School Administrator. The result of this study will serve as a guide
for the School Administrator improve student’s capacity in passing the
subject.

The Teachers. This will be essential to the teachers in terms of their

way in teaching students more about the subject.

The Parents. This will help them give guidance and advice to their
children upon passing the subject.
3

Future Researchers. This study will serve as a basis for the future
researchers that will be focusing in the same concern.

SCOPE OF THE DELIMITATION

This study focused on the attitude and behavior of Grade 12

students in passing the Computer System Servicing subject in Abellana
National School in a school year 2019 – 2020.

To improve the attitude and the behavior of the students in

passing Computer System Servicing subject. Questionnaires are given
to respondents to determine the proficiency of the Grade 12 students.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Hofer (2012), Posits that age plays a critical role in the

development of personal interest. He believes it may grow or
decline over the years. It can also change depending on the
other tasks has to manage and goals he or she striving for.
Those interests take importance of critical bridge between
cognitive and effective issues both learning and development. It
was clear that provide a way of focus to the students learning to
apply the theories of motivation, and recognizing the importance
of developmental for learning. K.Renninger (1992). To explored
students’ perceptions of their interest/lack of interest in their
academic work. Data were collected through interviews with a
focus group of six purposively selected fifth-form students at a
secondary school in Trinidad and Tobago. Results of the study
showed that the students identified internal and external
influences as impacting their interest levels. They felt that
4

teachers’ personalities and professional characteristics had a

significant input, and expressed hurt and disappointment about
the uncaring attitude of some teachers Thomas, Vicky I (2013).

Schwartz, Katrina (2013) the ability to focus is a secret

element to success that often gets ignored. The more you can
concentrate the better you’ll do on anything, because whatever
talent you have, you can’t apply it if you are distracted. The
attentional circuitry needs to have the experience of sustained
episodes of concentration reading the text, understanding and
listening to what the teacher is saying in order to build the
mental models that create someone who is well educated.

Snowman (1995) discusses the solution and evaluation study

about the computer based technology in student’s success,
academic achievements, student’s behavior and attitudes. The
study was based on the reviews, exercises and application.
Computer based education program criteria gives the light to
evaluation as a list.

Gong Yue Donovan, Beck Joseph, and Heffman, Neil T.

(2009), In this study, we are interested to see the impact of self-
discipline in students' knowledge and learning. Self-discipline
can influence both learning rate as well as knowledge
accumulation over time. We used Knowledge Tracing (KT)
model to make inference about students' knowledge and
learning based on their performance on an Intelligent Tutoring
System. Based on a widely used survey questionnaire, we
measured students' level of self-discipline. When we analyzed
relation of students' self-discipline with their knowledge
attributes, we found that incoming knowledge is significantly
5

high among high self-discipline students but there is no

consistent relationship of learning.

METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study is all about the attitude and behavior of the students
passing the Computer System Servicing subject. It uses a descriptive
quantitative research. It aims to observe and report on certain scenario
or phenomenon. This will be more efficiently to use since it can
describe a situation.

RESEARCH LOCALE

The locale of this study is Abellana National School which is

located at Osmeña Blvd., Cebu City, 6000. It is the campus mainly for

Technical Vocational Education. This school is composed of eight (8)

buildings. The Annex building, Senior High Building, Aboitiz

Building, and RSD Building are consisting of four (4) floors. The

Hilario Building, Lapu-Lapu Building, and Fernand Building are

consisting of two (2) floors. The Mapeh Building and the rooms in the

car park are consisting of one (1) floor only. This school has its own

grandstand and oval. This school offers two curriculums: the Technical

Vocational and SPS curriculum. The researchers are conducting the

research inside the campus only.

6

RESEARCH RESPONDENTS/SAMPLING

The researchers chose the Grade 12 students of different

section, St. Bernard and St. John, who are taking Computer System
Servicing major. The researchers used descriptive research and get the
total number of students and the mean and used the simple random
sampling which is being tallied, evaluated and recorded.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The researchers used survey questionnaire to collect data from

the Grade 12 respondents. The survey questionnaire was validated by
two expert teachers to assess the researchers to have a good result in
their interpretation of data. These two teacher experts are from
Abellana National School and their names are Mrs. Mirasol Patriarca
and Mrs. Joey Anne P. Binghay.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATION

The consideration of this issue is very necessary for the purpose

of ensuring the privacy as well as the security of the participants.
These issues were identified in advance to prevent future problems and
set possible solution if the problem occur. Among the significant issues
that were considered confidentiality and data protection. In the conduct
of research, the survey form method was drafted in a very clear and
concise manner to prevent conflicts among the respondents. The
researchers wrote a consent letter to get their permission to participate
this research study.
7

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The researchers prepared the instruments used through reading

the questionnaire to obtain ideas needed for the enhancement. Once the
questionnaires are final and is written or printed properly, it’s time for
the subject adviser to check the said questionnaire for some errors to be
corrected and to improve its quality and finally to be approved together
by the letter of respondents for permission purposes in conducting a
survey. Once the survey is done and was able to get the responses. It is
time for the group to tally, compute, analyze and record the gathered
information.

DATA ANALYSIS

The researchers used descriptive statistics. The responses of the

respondents are being tallied, analyzed and recorded the gathered
information. Those data gathered are being graph and evaluated.

that discusses the solution and evaluation study about the computer-
based technology in students’ success, academic achievement, behavior
and attitude.

CONCLUSIONS

Based on the result and discussion of the study conducted, the

researchers concluded that the Computer System Servicing students of
Grade 12 are having a hard time passing the subject. The respondents
consider focus as an essential way in passing the subject. Despite of
the difficulties the respondents are facing, they still find it interesting
to learn new lessons and solve computer problems. The respondents
believe that an action plan is helpful in passing the subject.

RECOMMENDATION

Based on the result and discussion, the aim of the study is to

know and make an action plan in order to the students to pass the
subject. The researchers recommend to the Computer System
Servicing teachers to provide more information to the Grade 12
students such as pamphlet or file format regarding to the computer
subject. The researchers also recommend the Grade 12 students to give
their best to stay focus in their study and never give up on the pressure
and difficulties of the subject.
