What Does PXE Mean?: To Enable The Network As A Boot Device

The Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) allows networked computers without an operating system to be remotely configured and booted by an administrator. To initiate PXE boot, the client sends out a DHCP broadcast requesting to PXE boot, with the DHCP server responding with an IP address. Enabling PXE boot involves entering the BIOS Setup, going to the Boot menu, enabling Boot to Network, and saving changes.

How does PXE boot work?

PXE Boot Process. When the client initiates a PXE boot (by traditionally pressing F12) however
the process is changed slightly: The client sends out a DHCPbroadcast and states that it needs
to PXE boot. The DHCP server picks up this broadcast and replies with a suggested IP address
to use.Feb 16, 2017
