Unit – 5

1. What are the different elements of communication system? Explain.

2. Modulation reduces the height of antenna. Justify with an example.
3. FM is more immune to noise. Justify with proper reasoning.
4. Define under modulation and over modulation in respect to AM.
5. Explain Amplitude modulation with proper diagrams.
6. An AM transmitter radiates 20 kilowatts of power when modulation percentage is 75. How
much of this is carrier power?
7. An audio frequency signal 20 sin 2π x 600t is used to amplitude modulate a carrier of 70
sin 2π x 106t. Calculate: a) Modulation index, b) Sideband frequencies, c)Amplitude of each
sideband, d)Bandwidth required, e) total power delivered to the load of 600 ohms.
8. The total antenna current of an AM transmitter is 5A. If the modulation index is 0.6,
calculate the antenna current when only carrier is sent.
9. The R. M. S. antenna current of an AM transmitter increases by 15% over its un-modulated
value, when sinusoidal modulation by 1KHz signal is applied. Determine the modulation
index.
10. A carrier is being frequency modulated by an audio frequency signal of 2.4V, 400 Hz and
mf being 60. Calculate maximum deviation. What will be the m f when audio frequency
signal is changed to 250 Hz, 3.2V?
