Craniopharyngioma: Intracranial Pressure

This document discusses craniopharyngioma, a type of brain tumor. It first notes that remnants of the craniopharyngeal duct can be found in the suprasellar region. It then explains that mutations in the CTNNB1 gene, which encodes beta-catenin, can lead to abnormal accumulation of beta-catenin and overactivation of the Wnt signaling pathway. This dysregulation of transcription can result in cell hyperplasia and the formation of craniopharyngioma. Symptoms include necrosis and cyst formation that increase intracranial pressure, as well as calcium deposition that can cause blurred vision or multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies.
