ADVANTAGES OF AMERICAN COLONIZATION IN THE PHILIPPINES

American colonization has an advantage in the Philippines. They provide resources

coming from them like for example, dealing with lands for farming of crops and plants. They are
also rich in the valuable resources such as gold, oil and coal. Capabilities of Americans look
forward on their goals in terms of colonization but not to harm but to share an impact that will
benefit its colonized country a sense of wealthiness and craftiness. The power of influence through
educations, cultures and religions. Filipino from the start catch up the vision of American colonizer
which is to share some cultures and religions. We can see that the influence of American colonizing
rise up and have been recognize by Filipinos but the sense of being nationalism sometimes affected
because of the power of influence.

There were three main advantages that people thought we would gain from taking the
Philippines. First, we would gain prestige in the world. All major European countries at that time
had overseas empires. By taking the Philippines, the US would have its first large possession far
from its own territory.

This would help make us look like an important world power. Second, we would gain
military power. By taking the Philippines, we would gain a place where we could have naval
bases. Ships based in the Philippines could easily project American power in Asia.

Finally, there would be economic benefits to taking the Philippines. We would gain
privileged access to Filipino markets, meaning we would be more able to get their resources for
good prices and sell them our products as well.

Let’s talk about the benefits of colonialism we gained from the Americans. First, the
Education system way back that time. As we remember, when we were under the Spanish rule
education is not free until Americans colonized the Philippines and help Filipinos learn English
and gave proper education. At that time, they used to call the teachers as “Thomasites”. I think that
is the best thing that ever happened during American colonialism in the Philippines for I believe
that education is very important nowadays. Americans don’t taught Filipinos just the general
information but they also taught their language which is ‘English’ that is now consider as the
second language in the Philippines.
Lastly, the system of the government in the Philippines in current times –Democracy.
This is what Americans leave with the Philippines. A proper and justifiable government system
on which people of the country has the right and power to choose whom they want to lead the
country.
