Dissociative Identity Disorder
Dissociative Identity Disorder
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the underlying symptoms and the agony that
DID patients go through.
I. Introduction
I believe the perception of what people think about DID is I might be crazy,
unstable, and low functioning. Everyone is different. This is a quotation written
by the author Esmay Parker from the book, A Shimmer of Hope. No one is like
the other one because everyone is different in their own way. We live in a world
where we always think that our own consciousness dominates everything that
we do. But what if another entity resides within us? That is the concern for the
uncurable disease called Dissociative Identity Disorder. It is a rare kind of mental
disorder wherein it is characterized by at least two distinct personalities or alters
that alternately controls one’s behavior and sometimes accompanied by
memory impairment.

We should understand the situation of those kind of people that suffers greatly
than we currently are. We should also learn to embrace those parts of us that
are not really amusing but essential because it makes us. People diagnosed with
this kind of condition faces a great challenge ahead of them and conquering their
own self by integrating those hidden parts to their advantage is one of the
choices that they could come up with. We should at least give them a try for all
we know, these people can work better than solo.

That is the concern for the uncurable disease called Dissociative Identity Disorder. It is a rare
kind of mental disorder wherein it is characterized by at least two distinct personalities or alters
that alternately controls one’s behavior and sometimes accompanied by memory impairment.
The signs and symptoms of this disorder varies. A patient of this kind of mental state
often forget some the information that he gathered. It is because of the sudden shift in the
memory of an entity inside the body. This usually results in a memory loss and not having any
clue on what happened before the other personality kicks in. They also experience time
disturbances and the identities of any patient usually are equivalent to ordinary people, though
fictional, mythical, celebrity and animal alters
When we talk about the major causes, it would be the external force that is applied to a
human being that made him/her have DID. Some of the usual causes of this is the sexual abuse
when the victim is still a child. Since we all know that childhood is the part of formative year,
manipulating them while they’re young is like emotionally scarring them for the rest of their
lives. Childhood traumas are also factors of the DID. Disturbed and altered sleep and altered
environment are one the reasons why this kind of illness is present among children.
The "alters" or different identities have their own age, sex, or race. Each has his or her
own postures, gestures, and distinct way of talking. Sometimes the alters are imaginary people;
sometimes they are animals. As each personality reveals itself and controls the individuals'
behavior and thoughts, it's called "switching." Switching can take seconds to minutes to days.
When under hypnosis, the person's different "alters" or identities may be very responsive to
the therapist's requests.
We should understand the situation of those kind of people that suffers greatly than we
