CFD Assignment 6: Aayushi Deohans (SC16B002)

This document summarizes the results of a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) assignment. It compares solutions using different numerical schemes, including central differencing and upwind differencing, and analyzes the effects of varying parameters like Peclet number and grid resolution. Graphs of the variable phi across the domain demonstrate the behavior of solutions using different schemes at varying resolutions. Additional comparisons are made between numerical solutions and analytical solutions for various time-stepping schemes. Steady state temperature profiles within a duct are also shown for the MacCormack and FTCS methods.

CFD Assignment 6

-Aayushi Deohans
(SC16B002)

Question 1

Figure 1: Steady state solution for various Peclet Number (Central Differencing scheme)

Figure 2: Steady state solution for various Peclet Number (First order Upwind scheme)

In Upwind Scheme we find no oscillations which are present in CDCS scheme for higher Peclet number.

Question 2
For α = 0.001, system was found to diverge as local Peclet number is greater than 2 for all grid
resolution i.e. (20,20), (40,40), (80,80), (160,160), for both UDS-CDS and CDS-CDS scheme.
For α = 0.01, and UDS-CDS scheme, it was found that local Peclet number is greater than 2 for grid
resolutions (20,20), (40,40).
And for α = 0.01, CDS-CDS scheme, local Peclet number was found to be greater than 2 only for grid
resolution (20,20).

For α = 0.01, UDS-CDS
