Asset Extension Summary

The Asset model builds on the BISDM Core data model, adding additional feature classes using the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC)
developed for the Building Information Model (BIM) standards. The basic approach is to provide essential Geographic feature classes
that correspond to IFC xml elements, and to leave options for implementation for the integration of the GIS features with additional
tabular information for these assets.

We anticipate that some organizations will create database views, others will join to external databases from ArcGIS Desktop layers,
and that others will use web services as an approach to join features to tabular data. This page describes some of the integration
concepts, the next page describes the specific content in the BISDM 2 asset model.
