B Determine the power that can be developed per m 3, the maximum power, average power and total energ
during 26 weeks.
I/ the power developed per m3
For Q = 300m3/sec , volume = 300*7*24*3600 = 181.44Mm 3, the power developed is eq
P = 125.1MW. So for 1m3 of volume, the value of power is 0.69W.
II/ The maximum power
Pmax = 0.417*Qmax = 0.417*1200 = 500.4MW
III/ The average power
Pave is the power corresponding to 50% time exceedance
Pave = 375.3MW (from the above table)
IV/ Total energy out put during 26 weeks
Etot = Pave * t = 375.3*103*26*7*24 = 163.93*107 KWh

2 Given
day flow(m3/sec H = 20m
su 26 η = 80%
man 35 Max allowble fluctuation of pond level is 1m
tus 40 Plant works for 6 days in aweek.
wed 50 Required
thu 45 I/ The capacity of the pond required to give a maximum uniform out pu
fri 40 II/ The weekly energy out put from the plant

Solution
I/ The capacity of the pond required to give a maximum uniform out put
Day flow Q(m3/sec) Vol.(Mm3) commu.vol(Mm3) Demand(Mm3)
su 26 2.2464 2.2464 3.2832
man 35 3.024 5.2704 6.5664
tus 40 3.456 8.7264 9.8496
wed 50 4.32 13.0464 13.1328
thu 45 3.888 16.9344 16.416
fri 40 3.456 20.3904 19.6992
sat 30 2.592 22.9824 22.9824

There fore, the capacity of pond required = max negative balance volume + max positive balance volume, with out c
Vpond = 1.296 + 0.6912 = 1.998 Mm3 ≈ 2 Mm3
II/ The weekly out put
P = ηγQH but H = (20+19)/2 = 19.5 m
uniform draw off, Q = 22.9824*106/(7*24*3600) = 38m3/sec
Average flow = 38*7/6 = 44.3m3/sec
P = ηγQH = .80*9.81*44.3*19.5 = 6779.5KW
Energy = P * t = 6779.5 * 6*24 = 976248 KWh
