a. Greetings
Good afternoon class!

We’re doing great Sir.

Good to know that class,

2. Review
Today, we will be having a new topic. So you
need to listen and take down notes because
you’ll be having a quiz after.
But before that, what was our previous
lesson?

It’s all about Voice and Vocal Quality.

What do you mean by Voice?

It is the sound that you make with your

mouth and throat when you are speaking,
singing or etc.
How about voice quality?
It refers to any of the suprasegmental
properties of speech that result from how
your vocal apparatus is configured.
What do you need to be intelligible when it
comes to speaking?
I think when we are speaking, it is really
important to maintain the clearness of your
voice. I mean it needs to be easily
understood.

What are the three vocal forces?

Explosive
Effusive
Expulsive
What do you mean by Explosive Voice?
Explosive.
In this vocal force, there is a powerful level
of intensity. It is appropriate when the
speaker want to emphasize violent emotions
in his speech.

What are the elements of voice?

Volume, rate, pitch, fluency, and articulation

What do you mean by volume and pitch?

Volume
It is how loud or soft your voice sounds. The
volume you choose depends greatly on the
venue, the amount of people in your audience
and even the content to some extent.

Pitch
It is the high and low frequency of your
voice, but it is more psychological. What I
mean is, depending on your point or your
audience, you may use different pitches.
How about rate and the rest of the elements?

Rate
This is how fast of slow we speak.

Fluency
This is the flow of words. It has a profound
impact whether your audience follows you.

Articulation
It is the formation of clear and distinct
sounds in speech. It means, that we need
really emphasize each of the words for the
better understanding.

Very good it seems you really understand the

lesson. So now let’s have an activity

3. Motivation
Since you’re familiar with our lesson
yesterday, this time let’s have an activity.
So this activity is called, 4-Pics-1-Word.
I will divide the class into 2 groups. Each of
the group will be given a set of pictures. You
only have a minute to guess what the 4-letter
word is. I want you to guess what the
common word in the pictures is. Understood?

Yes Sir.
Very good!

_____ ____ ____ _____

If you want to answer class, just raise your
right hand and wait for your name to be
called.
Yes Jerry? What’s in the picture?
Sir, what I can see is a spider, Miss Minchin,
a terror teacher, and a cockroach.
Very good.
What do you think is the word that is
common among the pictures?
Yes Milca?
Sir I think it’s all about Fear.
Very good!
Very good! I guess you all knew what’s on
the photos. This time I’ll show another set
photos.
How about these photos? Can you tell me
what is common among the photos?
Yes Karina? Sir based on the pictures, they are having an
anxiety of speaking in public.

Very good!
So how do call this fear?
Yes Marlon? Sir, It is Stage Fright.

Very good! That’s right!

So our topic for today class is all about stage
fright, specifically how are we going to
overcome our fears in speaking in public or in
front of the crowd.

4. Lesson Proper
Who a mong you has an idea about stage
fright?
Okay Maria, what is stage fright? Sir stage fright is nervousness before or
during an appearance before an audience.

Very good!
How about you Frank. Based on your own
words, what do you mean by stage fright? Sir I think it’s the lacking of confidence of
the speaker that results them to be afraid on
being on the front.

Exactly. It could somehow be like that.

Anyway, who among you has stage fright?
Yes Joan? Do you have stage fright? Yes Sir.

How do you deal with it then? Sometimes Sir I can’t handle it but I always
try my best not to be affected by it.

Nice Joan.
Who among have also fear of speaking in
public?
Patricia.
May you tell us you’re experience? Sir when I was in junior high school, our
teacher asked me to perform a speech in front
of our class but I failed to do so.

That’s a sad story Patricia. Sorry to hear that.

Okay, since some of you have stage fright and
failed to successfully deliver a speech in front
of a crowd, this time let’s talk about the basic
ways or tips on how we are going to
overcome stage frights.
Do you have any idea on how are we going to
handle our frights in speaking in bigger stage?
Yes Aljon?
Sir I think we need to have self-confidence.

Exactly. Now we are going to look at the first

tip in overcoming stage fright.

1. Lift the focus from yourself and

your fear to your true purpose—
contributing something of value to
your audience.
What do you mean by this Troy?
I think Sir, we need to avoid thinking that we
have a fear of speaking in public. It’s like we
need to give focus more on our main purpose
why we were out on that stage.
Exactly. Do you also do that?
Yes Megan?

Yes Sir, I always think of the main reason

That’s great then. why I was asked to do so.

How about the second one?

Yes again Megan.

2. Stop scaring yourself with thoughts

about what might go wrong.
Instead, focus your attention on
thoughts and images that are
Thank you! How do we do this? calming and reassuring.
Yes Aaron?

I think sir we need to be optimistic. Let’s

think that we can do it successfully without
That’s right. How about you Anna? committing any mistakes.
Sir I think we need to think a happy images
or positive thoughts that will make our
performance way better. It’s more calming if
we think those kinds of thoughts.
Excellent.
You understood it class?
Yes Sir!
How about the third one?
Yes Pamela.

3. Practice ways to calm and relax

your mind and body.

Thank you Pamela.

May you explain this also? Sir it’s like we need to be really comfortable
when we are on stage. We can do that Sir if
relax our mind and body. If our mind is clear
then we can do it well.

What else Jenny? Sir by doing exercises, yoga and meditation it

could help our mind be more relax and calm.
It’s like removing away all the stress we
have.

Very good.
May you read Vincent the next one?
Yes Mark?
4. Visualize your success.

Thank you!
Kindly explain this Febbie.
Sir we need to be optimistic. Think that we
can do it. That we will deliver the piece as
what it should be delivered.
Any other words?
Yes Yuan?

Sir let’s not think that we will stutter besides

we should think that we will pronounce that
words correctly. That the audience will listen
to us and lastly, they will applause at the end
of your turn.
Thank you Yuan.
May you read the sixth tip?
Yes Enchong.
5. Prepare your material in advance
and read it aloud to hear your
What do you mean by that? voice.

Sir we need to be well prepared when we

have something to do the next day. It’s better
to be ready ahead of time.

What else? If we were asked to deliver a speech sir we

need to prepare our piece, its content ahead
of time. Also, if we can see that it needs to be
improved, we can still do that because we
still have more time.

How about reading it aloud?

We need to read it for us to master where are
we going to pause and stop specially when
we will be using prompter. Also, fort us to be
more familiar with our speech.

Very good! 6. Make connections with your

The next one? Yes Albert? audience: Smile and greet people,
thinking of them as friends rather
than enemies.

May you tell us what it means?

Having a connection with the audience will
help us deliver our piece more convincing. If
we get that connection from them we could
feel like we’re friends with everybody.

Very good!
How about you Iza?
Sir we need to have connections with our
audience for them to feel that they are part of
our performance. If you’ll involve them by
having a connection with them, it could help
you perform successfully.

What do you mean by think of them as a

friend rather than enemy?
Yes Gio?
Sir if we will think that they were our friends,
we can have a more comfortable atmosphere.
We can’t be afraid to commit mistakes. We
will think that they wouldn’t judge us.

Exactly.
How about the next tip?
Yes Aj.
7. Be confident.

Why do we need to be confident?

Sir for us to do the task successfully. If we
have confidence in ourselves we can do all
things that we want. We can do it better and
full of success.
Very good.
Do you think you’re confident enough class?
Yes Sir.
Are confident enough to talk in the bigger
crowd?
Yes Sir.

Class, do you have any

questions,/clarifications ?
None sir!

5. Generalization
Since you none, I’ll ask you something.
What is stage fright again?
Yes Rohda. Sir stage fright is nervousness before or
during an appearance before an audience.

Very good.
