perform actions that the rest of
the years are forbidden in
India. Holi is one of the most
important festivities that is even
celebrated in other countries
where there is a significant
population of Hindus, as in
London or Spain.
Why it is a
special During this day, businesses

transportation. From early the
groups of children and adults
begin to go out to celebrate,
always shouting "Happy Holi".
People throw bright colored
powders (called Gulal) and
colored water to each other as
it symbolizes happiness by the
arrival of spring. In this way,
they simulate the colors of the
flowers that will soon be born.
Colors are not chosen at
random, but must convey joy
and positive desires. They have
kept certain colors as
traditional within the
celebration, like yellow that
refers to piety, orange
represents optimism, blue
symbolizes calmness, red is
used for love and purity, and
green for vitality.
