LESSON: Word formation

PLACE: the classroom

TIME: 50 minutes

AIMS: - to complete a gapped text with the correct form of a given word

- to predict the content of a story through visual stimulus


- to practice reading for specific information

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT: T – SS, SS – T

SKILLS: speaking, reading, writing, listening

AIDS: board, notebooks, books, cd player

DEVELOPMENT OF THE LESSON

1. Activity 1: Warm up
Aims: - to create a friendly atmosphere
- to check their previous knowledge
Procedure: T greets the students, asks them how they are and if there are any students missing. After
that the teacher checks homework.

2. Activity 2: Lead-in

Aim: - to activate students’ background knowledge

Procedure: T writes some gapped sentences on the blackboard and discusses with SS and identifies
which kind of word is missing.

Timing: 5’ Interaction: T-SS; SS-T

3. Activity 3: Announcing objectives


Aim: - to make students aware of the items they will learn

Procedure: T writes they title of the lesson on the blackboard and announces the students that today
they will talk about word formation.

Timing: 2’ Interaction: T-SS

4. Activity 4: Presenting the new lesson


Aim: - to introduce the topic

Procedure: SS will skim a text (a review of a film) in order to find out the purpose of the reviewer.
After that they will have to decide if the missing word in each gap is a noun or an adjective and write
the correct form of the word.

5. Activity 5: Practice

Aim: - to activate pupils in the process of learning and writing

Procedure: SS will have to read a text and find out some information, but before that they will have to
predict the correct order of some pictures.

6. Feed-Back activity

Aim: - to check understanding

Procedure: T asks SS what they did or didn’t like about the story.

Timing: 5-8’ Interaction: T-SS; SS-T

7. Homework: T gives the homework (exercises from their book).
