I. Motivation

Good Morning Grade 5 Narra. before we Good Morning Teacher

start our lesson for this morning, we’re going
to have first an activity.

I will show you some figures with shaded parts

and I want you to identify the fraction form,
ratio form and simpliest form of each figures.

Are you ready? Yes, Teacher

II. Analysis

1. In figure 1, the circle is divided in how 1. The circle is divided in 6 parts

many parts? 2. Three parts are shaded
2. How many parts are shaded? 3
3. 6
3. How do you write it in colon form? 4. 3:6
4. What is the ratio? 5. The GCF of 3 and 6 is 3
5. What is the GCF of 3 and 6 6. Divide 3 and 6 on its GCF which is 3 and
6. How do you simplify 3 and 6? 1

I. Abstraction
Our lesson for today is about Expressing
Fractions as Ratios and Vice Versa.

 Fraction is a "part" of a "whole". A

numerical quantity that is not a whole
number.

 A Fraction tells us how many parts of a

whole we have.
 The top number of a fraction is called its
numerator and the bottom part is its
denominator.

 Ratio is a relationship between two

numbers indicating how many times the
first number contains the second.
3:4
A fraction is also a ratio. You can express a
fraction in a ratio.
Example:

What part of the squares is shaded? Express it

in fraction.
Similarly’ what is the ratio of the shaded
squares to the number of squares?

To simplify a ratio, divide both terms by their

greatest common factor.
Example:
1. 4:12

4
4:12 as a fraction is
12
4
Express in lowest terms. Thus,4:12 = 1:3
12
The GCF of 4 and 12 is 4
So, 4 ÷ 4 = 1
12 ÷ 4 = 3

2. 10:35
10
Express 10:35 as a fraction. 10:35 = 35
The greatest common factor of 10 and 35 is 5.
So, 10 ÷ 5 = 2
35 ÷ 5 = 7

Answer on the board: 1. 6:9

6 ÷ 3 =2
6
1. 9 ÷ 3 =3
9

2.
8 2. 8:48
48 8 ÷8=1
16 48 ÷ 8 = 6
3. 28
3. 16:28
12
4. 16 ÷ 4 = 4
40
28 ÷ 4 =7
9
5. 36 4. 12:40
7 12 ÷ 4 = 3
6. 40 ÷ 4 = 5
14

5. 9:36
9 ÷9=1
36 ÷ 9 = 4

6. 7:14
7 ÷7=1
14 ÷ 7 = 2
II. Application 1. 8 ÷ 4 = 2
Simplify ratios. Then, Express your 12 ÷4 = 3
answer as fraction
2. 9÷3=2
1. 8:12 15 ÷3 = 3

2. 9:15 3. 24 ÷ 6 = 4
66 ÷ 6 = 11
3. 24:66
4. 15 ÷ 5 = 3
4. 15:40 40 ÷ 5 = 8

5. 18:30 5. 18 ÷ 6 = 3
30 ÷ 6= 5

III. Evaluation:
Draw the following ratios as fraction:

1. 5:10

2. 4:8

3. 1:3

4. 2:5

5. 6:12
