GROUP PRESENTATION

ASSIGNMENT

Project I: Poster presentation

English for Biology Students

Faculty of Biology
Universitas Gadjah Mada
Objective
To show one’s proficiency at public speaking,
using a simple poster as the visual aid.
Group Presentation
• Will be held on Week 7 until Week 16, except Week
8 & 9 as Midterm Week (8 meetings).
• Class will be divided into groups of 3 – 5 people.
• Each group select any biology-related topic/theme
from the senior’s undergraduate thesis in the library.
• The group will then have to do research on the topic
and present the result in a simple poster.
• POSTER TITLE MUST BE SUBMITTED ON FIRST
WEEK CLASS, AFTER MIDTERM EXAM
• Each group should give a short presentation on its
topic and answer questions from the audience.
– Length: 8 minutes
• All members should be involved!
Structure of the Presentation
1. Poster shopping
• Posters are mounted on the wall for 10 minutes, to
allow all students to read them through.
2. Presentation session
• Presenting group should give a very brief introduction
to its poster.
• Don’t read the content! Just give the outline for 5 minutes
max.
• Give a chance for each member to take part in the
presentation!
• The members then answer questions from the audience
(3 minutes).
The Poster
• Poster paper size is A0 (1189 x 841 mm)
• Should be printed and the texts are readable
within 2m distance.
• Should be brief, but sufficiently explain the topic.
• Pictures/photos may be inserted in the poster, as
long as it helps the audience in understanding the
content → You may used other pictures (not
pictures from undergrad thesis), but still, you have
to write a citation or refer where those pictures are
taken!
The Poster
• Make the poster as attractive as possible.
BE CREATIVE!
• But remember:
– Creativity & attractiveness must always related to the
topics.
– It is the content and how you present it that count,
because the main purpose is to show your ability in
speaking.
